  • I think the other place tried to solve this by weighing a certain number of votes up or down.

So if a post got 10 upvotes, the 11th would weigh less in the algorithm, meaning that it was harder to burry something that was already perceived as upvotable. If a post of comment got 5 downvotes, the 6th etc would “weigh” less in the algorithm making it harder to bury posts just by downvoting them. They also labeled posts as things like “controversial”, “popular” etc.

I don’t know that this is a solution, in part because our “algorithm” doesn’t really function on a karma system, and in part because I don’t have the kind of knowledge it takes to understand the finer details of how this arm of the fediverse works under the hood.

But I do like the idea of limiting the number of downvotes an account can make per day, and also perhaps automodding accounts that do upvotes or downvotes at a rate that a human user couldn’t.

  • I use a spreadsheet. Mainly so I can see where my money is going/how much I need to get paid to continue not being homeless.

To be very fair though this isn’t a skill I learned so much as one that was forced on me by the military before they’d let me “adult”. By adult I mean live on my own.

  • I am so curious about what happens when companies can’t buy computers because RAM, Storage, and chip sets are so expensive, and therefore can’t continue to buffer this bubble. Your tech is literally starving the people that you need to use it of their ability to do so but cutting off the supply to tech used to access it.

The prices of all computing are rising, wages continue to be stagnant, and every company making hardware is giving all the hardware to AI firms, assuming people will just use what they have. But there’s no new supply when what they have becomes obsolete or breaks. This is a shitshow. This is like babies first capitalism for these fools. It’s not even remotely sustainable.

And you want to put the people most likely to be forced to use the tech you’re schilling to be out of work? Make it make sense.
