If AI is so good why even have traditional OS?

I got permabanned from Reddit for talking mad shit about AI and saying what I think should happen to ICE and Trump, so I guess I didn’t care. Pretty funny though.

Nothing about AI is “in good conscience”.

Just like basically all of this AI shit… Who is this for?

They should be focused on making their food better and cheaper, not making their employees miserable.

Never used it. Don’t see any reason to. I just type stuff in my IDE. Works like a charm.

Most of the time I’m not writing large volumes or boilerplate code or anything, I’m making precise changes to solve specific problems. I doubt there’s any LLM that can do that more effectively than a programmer with real knowledge of the code base and application domain.

I also work on open source software and we haven’t seen a meaningful uptick in good contributions due to AI over the last few years. So if there’s some mythical productivity increase happening, I’m just not seeing it.

Yeah… I’ve always heard a lot of big talk from him about bcachefs that didn’t seem to be very easy to verify with any concrete data or benchmarks, but now I’m starting to maybe see why.

After 20 years of Evangelion rebuilds I was kind of ready to see Khara and Tsurumaki move on to something new, but I’m more excited and interested in this announcement than I thought I would be thanks to the intriguing trailer and drastically different production crew. If nothing else I think it’ll be really interesting where they take this show, and the high quality background art of the teaser showing a bunch of musical instruments in an overgrown environment makes me think that they are going to make a serious attempt at making something cool and new.

They got me hooked!

Just here to comment that there are so many songs listed in this thread that I like: Black Hole Sun, Rooster, No Rain, Wonderful Christmastime, Born to Run, Bohemian Rhapsody, etc.

None of these are my favorite songs or bands, but I like them.

Second, laws and regulation doing prevent people from doing bad things, they only disincentivize them. A life sentence for murder sadly doesn’t prevent murders from happening. But we agree that it’s important to dissuade would-be murderers.

I just don’t like the defeatist attitude around this stuff. We can fight this exploitation of workers and creatives, and we should. This is not a legitimate way to do business.

I agree with that. However, as I’ve discussed in other areas, the theft itself may be too far gone to catch the criminals. It’s akin to a crime from past generations, since AI research is so fast.

The crime is happening right here, right now. Our ancestors put slavery, child labor, robber barons, and segregation to an end, and yet we are somehow powerless to stop corporations from being beholden to the very copyright laws that they helped create?
