2·1 day agobecause your kids speak it?
I honestly have to wonder at what point people will collectively say “why the hell are we letting them do this” ? Not sure what happens after that, but it seems like it must have to happen at some point, right? Right?

2·2 days agoI’m surprised China hasn’t volunteered to implement a massive solar/electric project there. The island’s pretty small, there’s no hard military advantage to doing so, it’s within their belt & road initiative, and would piss off the US.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What are some examples where the more you know about the world, the better it seems?English
26·2 days agoPhysics -> chemistry -> biology. The further you zoom in, the more you come to grips with the just staggering number of hugely improbable events that lead to us being here. I feel bad for people who need to invoke religion to explain this, as it really hides the beauty of it all.

It’s hard to beat the Culture series. While not quite the same I found that Ken MacLeod’s Engines of Light Trilogy and Ursula LeGuin’s Hanish Cycle books were both excellent in their own ways and hit a lot of similar notes.

Technology@lemmy.world•Tesla's New Sales Data Is Absolutely BrutalEnglish
3·4 days agoThis is at least in part because Tesla is shifting manufacturing over to humanoid robots because he has to make a million of them to get his trillion dollar payout. His stupid shareholders are essentially paying him to nuke the company (unless you believe the humanoid robot hype)
oh very nice, I haven’t read this one but will add it to my list now. On a scale of 1-10 how depressing is it?
This is a great sentiment in the age of “AI is going to eat all labor.” I’d like to know how to dance around and see cute babies while keeping a roof over my head when there’s 80% unemployment tho.
But who wore it better?
For some accounts I do. For most I don’t.

I really like this, there’s something uncanny valley about it. I think the harsh lighting and firm shadows make it look like a computer render from the 1990s.

In an attempt to preserve my own sanity I’ve been reading the entire Discworld series since about October. Just finished Lords and Ladies, which I don’t think I read before and am now re-reading Mort for maybe the 5th or 6th time.
