Avid PC gamer, Linux convert, SCP fan.

Love Science Fiction, Cyberpunk, post-apocalyptic settings; Fan of the games of the defunct Arkane Studios. Listening to (Power-, Speed-, Thrash-)Metal, Gothic, Deathrock, EBM, Vaporwave, Lo-Fi; Classic and Musicals are fine too. Can’t stand Hip-Hop.

Owned by two cats, recently divorced, blessed with a personality disorder (AVPD) - pensioned (even the state has the opinion I’m a total wreck lol). This causes me to be unable to keep up personal connections and makes me ghost literally everyone, so if it happens to you, sorry in advance.

Chronically online.

Pro GenAI, but Anti-GenAI-Corpos; this technology should be available to everyone, which would only be fair since we all contributed to it. Datasets and Models should be under the jurisdiction of UNESCO, since they are literally the distilled cultural output of humanity.

  • I don’t think it’s worth it anymore. If they had succeeded with occupying Ukraine in a swift strike, it would have been worth it. Now, even if they accomplish their goals (losing 1000+ men for 50 meters per day - that means 350000 casualties for 17 kilometers per year - lets me suspect that they will run out of soldiers before that happens), they are looking at a territory with a long lasting resistance movement that can blend into your native population culturally and the continued isolation of Russia. That means the only way forward for them would be the next war.

  • The difference is that connecting to an VPS outside of UK legislation is a process which encompasses pretty much everything, from email to webbrowsing to whatever. The traffic is HTTPS encrypted and looks like any other legitimate traffic. What the VPS does afterwards is invisible to the UK Government. If the UK doesn’t want to put up a great Firewall that makes China blush, there is no way to prevent this, and legislation that cannot be enforced is dead law.

Also, this would be very disruptive for any business that isn’t totally local, which is an pretty good incentive to not do this if they dont want to cripple their economy.

  • Family of Secrets -> Oil depletion allowance -> Quartz -> Piezoelectricity -> Ultrasound -> Lazzaro Spallanzani -> List of Catholic clergy scientists -> Lorenzo Albacete -> Catholic University of America -> Charles Coughlin

Thanks for the rabbit hole! I now know more about a whole deal of subjects, starting with a political theme, gliding over taxation of natural resources, physical phenomena, priest scientists, history of how we found out that bats don’t fly by sight, finding out that there were priest scientists in my lifetime, the information that there is an catholic university in the US and landing on the wiki page of a antisemitic radio priest during the time of WW2 that reached around 30 million americans during his prime (funnily enough tying back into the radio grade quartz that is a valid resource for the Oil depletion allowance).

Edit: I haven’t even looked into your 2nd link yet.

I won’t gnash my teeth - If they release the game cloud-only, they officially don’t want my money, which only buys games i can archive (Clean Steam Files are fine, the copy protection is more of a formality than a hurdle); same as Denuvo-protected games. A publisher that does this is dead to me.
