- Russia started employing remote controlled geran/shahed drones with connection implemented via Starlink relatively recently. The initial stopgap fix was to shut off connection at speeds over 90km/h.
- Ukraine had to compile the database of serial numbers (or whatever identifiers they use) of all Starlink units they have to whitelist them and there was pushback from the people on the frontlines who said that reporting ownership of their Starlink terminal may result in their commanders “redistributing” said terminal away from them, so it took time to make the whitelists happen.

The biggest gripe for me is completely disabling MMB copy-paste functionality and instead enabling autoscroll everywhere. Couldn’t achieve this in CachyOS, except for the browsers and maybe a few Electron-based applications.
Holding MMB to scroll like a touch screen drag also breaks canvas panning on MMB in Krita, so I had to disable it.
Basically, MMB behavior in CachyOS is really unappealing to a Windows user, but it seems to be baked into the system.
Bandcamp has “Bandcamp Fridays” when 100% of the sales go to the artists. The next ones are on October 3rd and December 5th.
From what I’ve noticed, with AI companies, it’s usually not “annual” but “annualized”, which is just an estimate. And it doesn’t seem like there are any rules to calculating that estimate, you can just grab the best 30-day period of operation, multiply it by 12 and claim millions in annualized revenue. And then they usually just sell to someone based on this estimation, since it’s almost never profitable to build something on top of existing infrastructure of the main players in this market and maintaining your own is just not feasible.

10·6 months agoI think you can pull on it to lower the shower holder. E.g. if you have kids and someone before them put the holder too high for them to reach, they can pull on this thing instead.
It’s not AI, the shopped in cops are from a picture taken during the 2019 protests in Moscow caused by the violations in the Moscow City Duma Elections.

World News@quokk.au•Putin to conscript 160,000 more Russians for war with Ukraine
8·11 months agoThat’s literally just a planned spring draft. Happens every year from April 1st to July 15th and then there’s the autumn draft from October 1st to December 31st. The planned numbers are higher than before (160k vs 150k in 2024), and I’m sure a number of conscripts will be coerced into signing a contract again, but this isn’t exactly an unexpected event.

PC Gaming•Steam just cracked 40 million concurrent users for the first time, meaning Valve's user count was bigger than 80% of the countries in the United NationsEnglish
7·1 year agoGOG does have cloud saves and actually provides a more convenient way to manage them, unlike Steam, which kept restoring my ancient RimWorld saves for hours until I could finally convince it to get rid of them.
However, the storage space is smaller than Steam. Also, there’s no equivalent of Steam’s Workshop on GOG.
I think it’s a Ukrainian RK-3 “Corsair” ATGM. You can see the RK-3K marking there, suggesting it’s a tandem-charge HEAT warhead. I’m guessing the first one malfunctioned and didn’t launch, but was probably already primed for it?
You’re probably talking about Vitalina Batsarashkina, she’s Russian.

44·2 years agosome outrageous crazy statement about the war
it’s from Medvedev, as usual
Can the press just stop paying attention to him? He doesn’t hold any power, he gets to make no decisions, he was chosen to be Putin’s seat-warmer in 2008 because he was considered to be a safe choice, with no real ambitions and was extremely easy to reel in. His position on the “security council” means nothing, he was put there specifically so he’d be in a hostile environment, being a random guy between the military, the FSB and the intelligence service. Not that the council itself is much more than a Putin’s puppet. He became the biggest hawk as soon as the war started just in case anyone recalls some of his more “liberal” initiatives. In reality, there’s only 3 things he’s in charge of: a bottle, a shot glass and his telegram account.

47·2 years agoMeanwhile, most sex shops: selling jelly which just straight up melts with time, TPE/TPR which are porous and might melt when boiled and therefore pretty much impossible to keep clean, PVC which they promise doesn’t contain phthalates this time, and silicone that has about a 50% chance of actually being platinum cured. DIYers can’t be much worse, as far as I know, they either outright state what methods and materials they use or will provide them upon request.

World News@lemmy.world•Ukraine wiped out 100 Russian troops at once in a strike showcasing the range and power of its new US ATACMSEnglish
18·2 years agoTrying to demolish a capital structure like a bridge with rockets would be incredibly wasteful, they’re better spent for precision strikes on ammo depots, airports, vehicle storage, etc. The payload of the long-range ATACMS is only 214kg, somewhat on par with the FAB-500 bomb, which carries around 200kg with stated TNT equivalent of about 300kg. The truck explosion on that bridge last year was estimated at around 10 tons TNT equivalent, it barely shifted a couple slabs, and was fixed within weeks.
Using sea drones to take out supports might be a better idea, they’re at least considerably cheaper.

World News@lemmy.world•Ukraine wiped out 100 Russian troops at once in a strike showcasing the range and power of its new US ATACMSEnglish
11·2 years agoThe soldiers would have been out of reach of Ukraine’s shorter-range ATACMS missiles
Shorter-range ATACMS still have a range of 165km (103 miles), why would a position 50 miles behind the front lines be unreachable for them? It’s likely that Ukraine is currently expending their existing stock now that they know more is coming.
In Russian, pronunciation of Е depends on its placement. If preceded by a consonant, it’s pronounced like a “softer” Э. A bit like “bet” vs “bat” in US English. It’s only pronounced as “ye” if it’s the first letter of the word, or preceded by a vowel, soft sign (Ь) or hard sign (Ъ).
In Ukrainian, Є is similar to Russian Е, but it’s not modified if preceded by a consonant - in these cases it’s typically replaced by i. Ukrainian Е is indeed about the same as Russian Э. And Russian Ё is replaced by combinations ЙО or ЬО.

World News@lemmy.ml•Russia adds 'LGBT movement' to list of extremist and terrorist organisations
7·2 years agoThe Supreme Court declared the “LGBT movement” to be extremist on November 30th last year. Ruling went into power on January 10th. Now it just got added to a list. People have already been arrested because of it before this. It’s not an actual movement, the whole thing is just an excuse for more repressions, of course.

World News@lemmy.world•Gunmen in combat fatigues fire at crowds at Moscow concert hall, a big blaze followsEnglish
667·2 years agoPeople were posting videos while the attack was happening. Where are you getting this information about “jamming” from? Nearby traffic distribution nodes were likely overloaded which resulted in degraded performance of Telegram and VK services. This is something to be expected when thousands or even millions of people start sending messages all at once, trying to figure out what’s happening to their friends and family.

The Budapest Memorandum was initially signed by Ukarine, Russia, United States and United Kingdom, “assuring” the security of Ukraine in exchange for giving up their nuclear arsenal. But afaik it doesn’t really imply any legal obligations. I assume that the new agreement would involve more concrete conditions and responsibilities.
