PC Master Race@lemmy.world•What old datacenter / AI hardware could end up in desktop PC's?English
3·15 hours agoAgreed on all points, I think OP is hoping the bubble will burst, and the big players will have to unload their excess hardware all at once. But I don’t think that’s likely tbh.

8·18 hours agoRemoving and replacing memory chips is likely so labor expensive that it’ll never happen.
If the chips are just being hoarded to shut out competitors, which is what the OpenAI deal was rumoured to be about, we could see the unused chips getting bought and used, but equally likely we could see the chips (and dimms and cpus) deliberately shredded to prevent them falling into competitor hands.
My money is on an unprecedented level of e-waste, and nothing trickling down to consumers…
That’s basically 3rd base for praying mantis’s

Astrophotography@lemmy.world•Stuck pixels, only at high ISO?English
2·22 hours agoFor the future, I’ll try the additional dark frames, but the hot pixels are so high SNR that hopefully 1 will do.
I didn’t even know I was getting these hot pixels on the night, last time I went out I didn’t have this issue at all, which is part of my concern, it’s like my camera has gone from 0 obvious hot pixels to thousands overnight.
Thanks for the advice though, much appreciated.

Astrophotography@lemmy.world•Stuck pixels, only at high ISO?English
2·1 day agoOkay, I’ll take your word for it, but compared to my a5100 at the same settings, it’s an insane amount.
I do have a dark frame from later that evening, so I guess I’ll have to try the subtraction. Do you know of any software that can do the dark frame subtraction in batches? I have a few thousand shots I’d like to clean up :(

1·1 day agoSorry, I misread. I can definitely see them on my p.d account.
I think you must have blocked the community by accident, go to settings and confirm it isn’t in the blocked communities list?

1·1 day agoIt’s a crazy amount of hot pixels though, doesn’t seem normal? Pixel remapping doesn’t get rid of them either.

Seems fine?
I’m guessing they think gangs/thugs implies black people. Which sounds more racist imo.

Windows 11@lemmy.world•Should I set "max processor state" to 1% ?English
5·2 days agoProbably won’t save much battery, the main power draw with modern laptops is the screen.
And CPUs don’t really die from overuse, so no hardware life improvements.
I suspect by limiting to 1%, you’ll make your experience worse, as things will take longer to start, but not dramatically effect battery life.
I am curious though, so report back if it works.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•In the far future deployable couches will be designed into pants
3·2 days agoDepending on your definition of a couch, which I think is already a bit loose, they already exist.
- Bike shorts, built in cushions, no structure though
- Avalanche airbags, deployable cushions, built into a backpack, kinda like an inflatable couch? Not in pants though.

500w isn’t that high, sockets in Aus can push out 2000w+ without any issues, and your not gonna spend 1500w on the rest of the system.
Quick google suggests USA can do 1800w with a 15a circuit, or 2400w with 20a circuit, so plenty of headroom there as well.
Remember people plug space heaters into sockets, and those will out draw even a high end CPU easily.
