Any issues with the GPU drivers switching between integrated and discrete? That’s what I was having issues with on my last laptop, didn’t really have too much else as a problem, and why I often hesitate to recommend people with laptops running Nvidia graphics to switch too quickly for that reason.

Eh, the install for most distros is pretty hard to screw up, just be careful about your Nvidia drivers. I’ve had bad luck with laptops with Nvidia in past, but actually running the game in Linux (at least from steam/proton) should be pretty seamless.

Linux@lemmy.ml•I think i am ready to switch from windows and need advice
2·16 hours agoNvidia occasionally can be a pain, but that is mostly in laptops in my experience, desktop drivers are generally fine. Try whatever distro you want, might wanna start by burning some distros on flash drives and booting from them to see which one you like the most. Lazy recommendations are Mint, Fedora, Bazzite, and maybe endeavorOS. Also, the most you might have to do with regards to the Nvidia drivers is install them via terminal (which for a lot of people is literally copy/paste the command into a terminal and follow what it says, usually to enter your password and y/n do you want to install), but there are a few distros that have the option to install via GUI.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are some Ship of Theseus bands, where all original members have been replaced by someone new?
3·5 days agoI wanna say Lorna Shore? It’s been a hot minute, but I’m pretty sure all of the original members of the band have left.

3·7 days agoADHD as well, texture can be a pretty annoying thing, and yeah dirt and sadness can apply to cremini (which are white button, portebellos, and bella mushrooms, just harvested at different times), but plenty of “exotic” mushrooms do generally taste better and can have a very different texture. Also, a lot of places straight up don’t know how to cook them, though it seems like that isn’t your main issue (though I will say their texture can vary quite a bit). I’d suggest maybe trying Lions mane crab cakes or breaded and fried oyster mushrooms (think southern fried chicken) if you ever encounter them, maybe those might be appealing. Sorry to maybe harp a bit much on it, just really love mushrooms and have known a few people who hadn’t actually experienced good mushroom dishes and once they did, they changed their minds a bit.

12·7 days agoYeah, and they’re getting pretty good now too, like the “steaks” that you just fry up. Kinda wish there were lions mane crab cakes were more available, those are awesome with remoulade and lettuce.

3·7 days agoWhat do you not like about mushrooms? There are plenty that (if prepared/cooked properly) are pretty good. Have you tried oyster or lions mane mushrooms for instance? A lot of people have only really tried cremini, which is only a small portion of the total availability, and a few other types can taste completely different.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What advice or tips do you have which sound like nonsense but really work?
2·11 days agoAlso, if you’re having trouble sneezing (starting but unable to fully sneeze), try looking at a light source when you start sneezing. Conversely, looking away from a light might help you not sneeze as well, but it isn’t much of a guarantee.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Hey, guys. Is it a good idea to dunk PC parts in isopropyl alcohol?
7·16 days agoYeah, I’m reading this, and with what I’ve seen it checks out. I’m from NC and my family is as well, and the number of deaths that I attribute to smoking in my family is pretty high. Even if you don’t die, you often have issues either later in life or for the rest of your life.
I like endeavorOS, it’s the main distro I use on my pcs. I’ve run arch before (with i3wm and switchable Nvidia graphics) and did for years, but honestly I don’t really have the time to properly configure my systems to my liking, so the option to install the sway community edition and just tweak a few settings in the config files is very nice.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Would you rather?: Fully anonymous internet, but it's filled with AI Bots OR Real ID Verification but zero Bots?
4·2 months agoAre these nice bots? Or just pure spam.
Yep. Have been using them for years, and just recently got a small gooseneck one. A lot of mornings I can just press a button, and in about 5 min I can come back and open a ramen cup just barely, and the water gets in without spilling. Also very nice for having tea whenever you want, and even sorta stirring honey or whatnot while pouring.

Casual Conversation@piefed.social•Boredom... hobbies... what to do that's fun? Suggestions?
5·2 months agoDo you want a day activity, or are you looking for something to enjoy long term? Long term, something like exercising, learning to cook, learning to code, Linux, woodworking, and others can be pretty fulfilling. However, if you just seem to be bored (or slightly depressed) and want to have a day, maybe try going to the library, or a day trip hiking, or something you’ve had even a passing interest in before, assuming it doesn’t require too much preparation (I’m not going to suggest climbing a mountain if you’ve never done that before) or is out of your budget, just try doing it.
“Exclusive offer for you, [sucker]”
I swear, I actually went through the process and unsubscribed via their form, was soo annoyed that it didn’t do anything.
By the way, those emails are pushing their phone plans, which absolutely suck. My parents switched to save some money (sadly before I knew it), and my mother has had the most dropped calls I have experienced since they were on Sprint. Would not recommend.
Is it bad that my first reading was that the person was laid off during vacation?

Electric Vehicles@slrpnk.net•Verge unveils 370-mile electric motorcycle with solid state battery; sounds too good to be true?
4·2 months agoThe base price was 37k euro I believe. Honestly, after reading through the comments and watching the video, my “scam hackles” were a bit raised. Not to mention, it would probably be a pain to change that back tire (most bikes allow you to just take if off, but I can’t see how you could do that with the way it’s set up).

Huh, interesting. My old laptop was on x (i3wm), so I mostly had issues with that, and how the GPU would have to spin up if any of the usb c ports were being used, as they ran through the GPU (stupid design). Thankfully I don’t really have to worry about Nvidia anymore, new laptop (which is actually older) only has Intel integrated (specifically wanted to get away from Nvidia) and the desktop has an AMD gpu.
