Semi related tangent.
I can’t be the only one who is annoyed at how prevalent black nitrile gloves has become in society.
I especially dislike it in food handling and when handling people.
If you are going to use gloves when handling food or humans, you should use white, or brightly colored gloves as it is easier to see if they are dirty or not.
Not that I believe the police would care in this instance.
If you are wearing gloves and have touched anything they should be considered dirty. It shouldn’t matter what color they are, either you touched something or you didn’t.
Edit: I like to use black nitrile gloves for food prep like mixing burgers or marinating where I don’t want to have to super duper scrub to make sure my hands /wrists are clean. The second I put them on they are only for touching food until I take them off
Blue is a much better color for food prep. Not many things are naturally blue so they stand out better of a part of the glove gets in your food mix, white bits may look like fat or other food and black can easily be masked in darker ingredients.
This is why cooking ingredients like large butter blocks and bricks of fresh yeast are in blue wrap or blue bags. If you dump a few 40 kg blocks of butter into a mixing bowl with a few hundred kilos of sugar and flour then a small bit of blue is going to stick out like a sore thumb, black might also but add in black strap molasses or caramel color then you won’t see black glove bits.

It actually shows some things better, though it is a niche situation.
I don’t think it matters much at all for home use, obviously. I see where you’re coming from with food services. But in a clinical setting, you run into advantages, particularly in wound care and personal care (bathing and hygiene).
White absolutely isn’t better when working with patients. For one thing, you’ll be changing gloves often enough color rarely matters anyway (or you should be). But white is going to be tinged closer to skin tone once on, and that’s not helpful at all. You want contrast, and that’s where blue comes in as superior. Anything made by the body is going to usually contrast with blue better than clear/white.
Black becomes useful specifically when dealing with larger wound beds, particularly those with poor visibility in the deeper sections. The ability to see what is you vs what is the patient’s tissues is better with black than blue, at least in my experience. It was also the default color handed out to two different companies for wound care, so it isn’t purely my opinion.
A secondary benefit is for in home care with wound care. Once the work is done, they show less of the body fluids during disposal, so when family is seeing the gloves, they aren’t seeing as much blood and tissue. Again, really niche, but it’s a benefit.
If I was to rank the common disposable glove colors for medical and food use, I’d rank blue as the best, then black, then the more standard latex color, with clear being the least beneficial. I’ve only rarely seen actual white gloves of any material (they were polyurethane).
But even that is general purpose, because each of the common colors has places they work better than the others by some thin margin.
What I hate about the black gloves is the police side of things, where I suspect the color is chosen for it’s psychological impact rather than anything else.
But, legit, when I buy gloves for myself to use at home, I get either blue or black, whichever I can get cheaper at the time. They’re just the most versatile in terms of having a benefit based on color, and they’re the most common nitrile options. If I have to get latex, I tend to go with the standard color because they’re the cheapest usually. Right now, I’ve got a half box of blue left, plus the half dozen boxes of black I lucked into a great deal on.

I am an IT guy, so I’ll freely admit that I don’t actually know that much on the medical/technical side of things and probably just projected my own esthetic preference.
I am currently using white gloves when doing the washing up or cleaning, but have used purple, blue, lime green, orange and black, in my experience I find that black are fairly annoying since they contrast worse against the background when working, blue, purple and lime green work well, white is fine, but some cleaning products discolor them quickly.
I’ve noticed that the various grave brands also tend to use different textures on different colors sometimes. Black, orange, and green tend to have “grippier” fingers and palms on average. Kinda weird, but it happens enough that I noticed it at all.

In my opinion only mechanics or “dirty” jobs should be using black latex gloves.
If you mess with anything organic they should be white or blue.
I disagree, black gloves a quite annoying when working in dirty areas when you need contrasting colors to distinguish your fingers from the background, I think orange or green would be good for mechanics.
You know that’s valid. I’d love orange gloves but it’s only blue or black at my local hardware store.
Frequently the gloves are to protect the hands, not whatever is being handled. So cleanliness isn’t really a factor. And I honestly doubt gloves are really an improvement for food handling. Its easier to wash your hands than your gloves. And I doubt most food service workers will be changing gloves often. So they will just touch dirty things with gloves, then touch food with gloves. And I don’t mean dirty in a way light colored gloves would show. I mean like grabbing door knobs, phones, wiping their nose/face.
I know that, I am just annoyed at the trend that’s all.
