I suppose you could view it like that lol. I’m not sure if modern video formats found a way to compress audio and video together. My guess is not because they’re so inherently different. Films (like ya know, movies on film) had the audio on the film besides the frames.

The signals were not coupled, at least not in that way, and at least in NTSC. None of the bandwidth of the audio signal overlaps with the video signal. In fact, the audio signal was just a standard FM signal that you could tune into with a radio.
Maybe in those days they just played a loud noise that didn’t actually replace the sound and that was cheaper than setting something up with bandpass filters to mute it for a moment.

4·6 hours agoThe thing is that Discord is sort of like three or four things all in one and it’s really difficult to find a good replacement that does them all while still having a nice userbase.

5·6 hours agoThis is the part where my mom would mention party lines.
In some rural areas there was something like not every house had a unique phone number, but as a side effect you could just pick up the phone and talk to all the people on that same party line at once.
Thanks. When I see it in the future I will leave a comment about it.
When you’re close enough to the sun it heats you enough, because at some point you’re so close you’ll burn up, and at some point you’ll freeze, so there must be a point between them that’s comfortable. (And yes that might involve spinning so you don’t cook on one side and freeze on the other.) Never said it “heats the vacuum”.
On the viewer’s side or creator’s side?
Exactly, so there must be some environment between us and the sun that’s comfortable.
The atmosphere does just “stop” either though. It also forms a gradient. There’s not a magic barrier where the atmosphere is and isn’t. It just gets gradually thinner and thinner. So in the same way there’s a Goldilocks spot in the atmosphere where it’s a comfortable temperature without being too cold, there must be another one near the sun.
Besides, heat radiation travels through a vacuum. If it didn’t then the Earth wouldn’t get heat from the sun at all.

RetroGaming@lemmy.world•Let's take a moment to remember the time period when everyone had to adjust to using dual-joysticks on controllers.English
3·17 hours agoA lot of games now still have motion control aiming, you just tilt the controller. Sometimes it’s off by default though. I typically use the stick for big movements and tilt aiming for zeroing in.
You don’t think a function of the temperature from the sun to the earth forms a continuous line? You think it’s piecewise? It’s continuous! Yeah it probably bottoms out to effectively zero pretty quick, but there’s some distance from the sun that would be the right temperature. Sure, the other rays from the sun might not make it livable. Sure, it might be so narrow there’s no way to effectively keep yourself in orbit there without getting sucked closer and burning up. Sure, it’s a dumb thought experiment, but there’s no way there isn’t some point where it’s comfortable.
I really dislike the sound they use for censoring. It’s so annoying. Plus, why make it so loud? I think they genuinely do it to make it seem worse and grab your attention.
Another thing I hate is when the subtitles are censored but not the audio. That’s actually pretty ableist if you think about it. They should match. If the audio is censored, censor the subtitles. If the audio is uncensored, don’t censor the subtitles. It infantilizes people who are hard of hearing as if they can’t handle a swear.

Define “quickly” and why is it not always immediately after confirmation?

3·1 day agoYes, that’s the one small silver lining one the pile of bullshit this is. Plus you won’t need to do it multiple times anymore.
It comes down to is Discord really deleting it once they’re done and not training on the facial scans.

That’s amazing. I’m gonna tell my mom that, she’ll love it.
