0·3 months agoCura’s a fantastic slicer, but kindof a terrible program. They gave up on ARM support a while ago. And their dependency situation is majorly out of control. To the point that Gentoo has literally given up on supporting it and maintaining a working package.
0·3 months agoFor customers to hire them. Yeah, ok. That makes more sense. I mean, in the same way hostile architecture makes sense, but at least now I understand what they’re trying to accomplish and how the machines further their fucked-up goals.
I don’t understand. If they want people to stop seeking temp jobs there, wouldn’t just always turning people away when they ask for day labor work? (And maybe put up a sign that says “we’ll never give you day labor”.) And given that they’ve gone to the length of installing machines, surely they already do always turn people away, in which case why are people braving the noise machines to wait to be turned away?
Is this people hoping that Home Depot customers will hire them for a day job for like… assistance with building a deck or whatever? The article makes it sound like they’re asking the Home Depot itself for work, though.
Whatever the case, Home Depot is clearly bigoted assholes who are willing to be assholes to their customers so long as they can also be assholes to latinx folks, but I don’t get quite what their motive here is, nor how they expect these machines accomplish whatever they’re hoping.

Democrats when they’re in power promoting places like Puerto Rico and DC into states definitely wouldn’t hurt, though.
Also, theoretically Trump getting less and less popular is probably helping its chances.
And more awareness of the existence of the pact is definitely beneficial.
Whether it’s likely to happen even if the above all happens, who knows.
It’s way past time to get the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact to 270.

0·4 months agoThat sounds like exactly the sort of thing therapy is for. I’m no kind of expert, but it’s very likely there’s a lot of deeper things keeping you from developing achieving the kind of skills you’re wanting. And it sounds very much like it’s a problem in your life that’s causing you a lot of anxiety and pain. I think if there’s any way you can do talk therapy, that’s the place to start.
Wow. Huge topic. And it depends on a ton of things. And I definitely don’t feel like I’ve got it all figured out myself.
If you’re young and just for the first time having to manage your own affairs rather than depend on parents to help with that, then self-help kind of stuff might well be a fine place to start. (Just avoid Jordan Peterson.) If you’re older and feel like you’ve had the time needed to develop those skills and still don’t have them, it’s likely there’s something deeper going on that might benefit from therapy.
I personally cared for my ailing grandmother for a long time. And that shit’s hard work, and takes a lot of time. In the process, I let a lot of things go by the wayside like yardwork, home repair, and organization. Now that she has passed, I find myself with a lot of remedial work to catch up on. I feel like I’m making progress. It’s frustrating and slow, but it is progressing and that’s the important part.
