IS DAKKA
Going on my 3rd or 4th year now (this isn’t my only account), and frankly I’m not sure why I bother
If we allow people with significant dark tetrad personality traits (narcissism, machiavellianism, psychopathy, everyday sadism) or social dominance oriented people to have any meaningful amount of power over others, including the ability to run for office or vote, they will eventually turn societies into… well, what we see now.
Unsurprisingly conservatism overlaps with those traits.
So, ironically, to be able to run a functioning democracy, you’d have to exclude a fairly sizeable chunk of the population from participating in it
Edit: and this includes directorial or managerial positions in any kind of organisation, because corporate psychopaths are common scarily common and very harmful

edit: /ˈjolːɑ/ for you IPA perverts
But all the “gain of function” stuff I’ve seen sounds like bullshit.
But that happens to viruses all the time? How do you think we get flu pandemics?

2·20 hours agoHmm, I doubt the “fuck off” people would get added to “don’t know”, at least not by competent pollsters and this was by Ipsos who aren’t total failures at least.
But even if I spent 90% of my days touching grass, if someone called me and said “hello, yes, your country has just attacked Iran, are you cool with this?”, even if I hadn’t heard about it I wouldn’t be OK with it. Then again those people might not really know jack-fucking-shit about the world outside their immediate experience and couldn’t really form an opinion on whether attacking another country is bad or not, so there’s that
