4·2 days agoKeeping an eye put for deals on older models. This seems like such an ideal emulation gaming device. OLED screen would have really nailed it.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•How "heavy" is self-hosting matrix really?English
8·4 days agoIs there a good alternative that you would recommend?
I needed to make a chat server for a bunch of normie extended family members. They need an easy to use mobile chat. Registering on PC complicates things. Then adding the mobile client for authorised encrypted messaging wasn’t really going to be realistic for everyone to do.
If anyone knows of a chat/voice/video self hosted app thats easy to deploy and use, I would be very interested in any suggested solution. Vocechat was not easy to deploy or get voice chat working…and the app sucks.

35·5 days agoYes, you do need to teach people all of that. Tech bros have sold LLMs as if they are AGI…and people have eaten this up.
The general population is literally ignorant of the fact that these word guessing machines do not have human values or cognitive skills.
Yes, using Element X. I haven’t been able to figure out the problem yet.
I am also interested in the answer. I’ve tried Conduit and it was easy to deploy, but I had trouble with search and new user registration. Now I’m trying Continuwuity and new user registration still isn’t working for some reason.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Can a reasonable person genuinely believe in ghosts?
42·5 days agoThis seems to be a phenomenon I’m coming across increasingly frequently in real life. People outraged about “how dare you think that…”.
This has always been quite common online, but I never saw this much IRL. Sometimes I have to shut down a conversation with someone because they’re getting too worked up to talk about the issue.
Did you read the top of the image?
I’ve been using this for years. Its a great option for replacing googles calendar, mail, contacts and cloud drive. Works great on the phone with DAVx and Thunderbird on the computer.

Unpopular Opinion@lemmy.world•Yes, providing spoiler warnings for very old films is still appropriate and necessaryEnglish
222·8 days agoWell if we’re out sharing unpopular opinions then here are mine:
-
Add spoiler warnings if you want, but there should be a statute of limitations and every discussion regarding movie and TV can’t consider if everyone present has seen it or if they plan to. Most references are to memes that are so ingrained in culture now anyway. Darth Vader’s “no, I am your father” is hardly a spoiler anymore.
-
People are over concerned about spoilers generally. The surprise element is a very tiny proportion of the value of the art. You could literally tell me the ending of Se7en or Sixth Sense and I will argue that my enjoyment of good art is not affected at all. Everyone doesn’t need to be as extreme as me, but the over reliance on the surprise element of art is bordering on absurd now. Even saying “there is a twist” is considered a spoiler.
The Closer Look channel has an excellent video on how spoilers make a movie better (on Nebula currently, will take another week to get onto YouTube)…although he is talking about the intentional use of spoilers by the creator, I think the message carries over to all media.
-
I’m also interested in this, but with the added requirement of “no politics”. There are meme communities but people are hell bent on posting political absurdities everywhere as if they are flag waving for their team. I just want dumb jokes about dumb shit without hearing propaganda.
A twink girl should be called a twirl.
