Ys 1 & 2. I love the Ys games. But I really only play VI through X. There are remakes of some of the other older ones for the PSP and Vita, I have played through those, too. They are very well done, IMO. But I cannot get into the first two. The mechanics are just too weird. I have the remastered for the DS, I am going to give it a try again, but I’m pretty sure it is largely just visual changes and I am still going to hate it.

I miss the thriving, active subreddits for fountain pens, watches, and calculators. I tried being the change I wanted to see in a watch community, but after about a week of being the only poster, It just kinda felt like I was just showing off my watch collection. Fountain pens is a bit more active, at a few posts per month. Forget about calculators.

I have 3 luxury watches. I’m not rich, it took quite a while to pay off each. That’s probably all, those were the only 3 I ever really wanted. I bought them because I like watches, nobody else I know cares about them at all. The ones i picked have interesting movements or history. I didn’t get them specifically for their brands. None are Rolex. I would say the biggest difference is not just the materials, it is the quality and tolerances of the machining. The surface finishes.

I like to build and mod watches. I have quite a few made with Seiko movements and aftermarket parts. Some are pretty nice, and I never thought there would be much of a difference between a $400 Seiko and a luxury watch. Until I held my Tudor for the first time. The bracelet has almost no play to it between the links. My Seikos feel sloppy by comparison. The brushed surfaces feel almost soft, they are so smooth. I find myself just rubbing it sometimes. The clasp has little ceramic balls for the detent, and they are very smooth to operate. Wearing it is an excellent tactile experience. Like a fidget toy. It’s also the watch I wore during my daughter’s birth, and that is primarily what I think of when I wear it.

But yeah, long story short they do feel different. I bet there are a ton of people that only buy them as status symbols, though.

Oh gosh, i did that a couple years ago. We had some people leave, including my manager. I was a lead engineer. I was also leaving, I was promised a position at a 27% increase in salary. But it is a big, international company and their HR was painfully slow at getting me an offer letter. It ended up being 3 weeks from interview to offer. In that time, I just had to sit through several rounds of meetings with the COO, restructuring our group. I was a pivotal part of this plan. Finally, he had the plan finalized. And I got my letter. Handed in my two weeks the same day. No regrets. Love the new place.

Also, that COO wad not an insignificant factor in people leaving.
