For real though - people will insist that Pluto is a planet but not even know about Eris.

19·19 days agoAll the suggestions in this thread are good, but for anyone who doesn’t want to self-host or change providers entirely (because changing your email is an absolute pain in the ass):
At least get a different mail client. You don’t have to use the official Gmail App to access Gmail! I personally really like FairEmail, because it’s open source, has no unnecessary bells and whistles, and just works. It takes less than 5mins to download it and move Gmail over there completely, with no risk of losing any data or missing any mails.

I’ve been daily driving Bazzite with Gnome too for the last few weeks! It works perfectly fine, but I was weirdly unhappy with the aesthetic of it, despite knowing for a fact that I love Gnome, especially the bare-bones Gnome that CachyOS has.
I only found out about Gnome extensions a few days ago while trying to get rid of the ugly Bazzite Logo in my top bar. It’s probably super obvious to anyone else, but those extensions make such a huge difference and playing around with different ones is absolutely worth it!
OP, if you do end up going with Bazzite, go to the “Extension Manager” and toggle a few of those on or off to see the difference! Getting new ones is super easy too!
I recently switched my parents old Macbook with a random Dell Notebook running ZorinOS and they’re pretty happy with it so far! So maybe that could be an option for you? Their guides are very easy to follow as well - https://help.zorin.com/
Turkey-sized is totally fine with me, they make teeny tiny happy hoodies!

Man I wanna see that youtube dog grooming lady bathe a velociraptor. Bet they would look very cute in a happy hoodie while being blow-dried 🥺
My team has moved to a thing we call “ScrumBan” and it’s worked pretty well. There still are 15-min Dailies, and a Review and a Retrospective each Sprint, but we cut almost all meetings that are about sitting around and “planning” tasks (aka awful 7-hour meetings where everyone just zones out and guesses random story point numbers). Instead, tasks are planned and moved to the board on demand and never in the presence of the entire team. It gives everyone so much more time to just focus on their work.
It’s surprisingly good as a backend language, if you don’t really need OOP all that much. The perfect case is probably using it in microservices that only really need to do a bit of data manipulation and some database interfacing.

3·24 days agoSometimes different is even better! When I switched to Linux a few months back I didn’t anticipate just how much I would like the Gnome desktop environment. Now I sometimes even try flicking down my mouse to switch tabs on my Win11 work pc and get a pang of disappointment when it doesn’t work.
Year 7-9 was pretty alright for me! I had cut out all the people I dislike in my class by year 6 so after that I had a nice, tight-knit friend group.

4·1 month agoIt’s the same exact laptop, the tests ran sequentially but were edited so that the video shows them in parallel. Since it’s the same hardware in each test and only the OS changes, it’s a perfectly fine setup for comparison.
Russian could have been such a woke language if Russia wasn’t such a right-wing shithole. It’s kind of elegant how you gender verbs when talking about yourself, because your conversation partner can just pick up on it and gender you accordingly.
I’m pretty new to the whole Linux thing as well and personally, I’ve been liking ZorinOS much better than Mint. Mostly just because it’s prettier, everything else works just as well haha
Installing one distro on one laptop and then only using that laptop to figure out how to install the next distro on the other laptop! That would give me an actual goal in each distro I install too, since I’d have to get the wifi and browser working and figure out how to run that program that burns iso files onto a usb stick :0
… that would be such an entertaining youtube video concept too, I wish I was into video making haha
I actually have tried it on the bigger laptop by now and somehow Bazzite runs Sekiro more smoothly than my “Gaming” Lenovo Legion Y530 that has an actual GPU and is from around the same time ever did. 🫣 It was completely unplayable on my other Laptop… which makes me think that maybe I misconfigured it to not actually use the GPU back in the day??? I’ll have to experiment with that a bit more haha
Man I wish I could participate in the programmer socks joke, but I feel like it just doesn’t really hit the same when an afab person does it :(
Not yet, but I have seen that it is very popular on Distrowatch! :D It’s definitely in my backlog

I’ve been using it. Put it as the default search engine on all my devices, even my work hardware. Before that, I just had the AI features toggled off, but those settings don’t stick when clearing all cookies (which I have to do way too often).
I have also left reddit 2 years ago and never visited again. So no idea what your point is?
