question: I'm looking for an open-source command-line tool that would migrate genbank features. So given a genbank file and an alignment between the genbank sequence and another one, it should adjust the genbank features to their positions in the new sequence.

I'm not interested in any closed-source solutions and I cannot imagine there isn't a free solution to this, but I cannot find anything.

@muellerwhh Du kannst Dich bei der zweiten Frage halt immer für Durcheinanderwürfeln entscheiden, um einfach möglichst viele Ziffern abzudecken - hätte ich heute definitiv machen sollen. Gerade bei den Fragen aus der ferneren Vergangenheit, bei denen man im 1. Versuch schon nah dran ist, ist das oft die beste Methode, weil die Chance, dass noch ein Hinweis kommt, den man genau zuordnen kann, einfach sehr gering ist.

@CoMaps organicmaps has far from perfect, but decent Linux (also mobile) support and can be installed from flathub. Is this something that we can expect from you in the future, too, or are Linux users stuck with the original?

The decision of the organizers to have a subreddit for the conference for discussions and for connecting participants doesn't seem to take off - no activity at all so far.
Don't know if things would be any better with but then people could at least comment from whatever fediverse account they'd want to share with other participants.

To be very clear though, everything else around the conference seems organized outstandingly well to me.

Herbstwind und -wetter haben mal wieder unseren Keine Werbung-Aufkleber vom Briefkasten entfernt.
Das ist so, wie einmal im Jahr an einem PC ohne Adblocker zu arbeiten. Man merkt gar nicht, was für eine Flut von Müll einem sonst "entgeht", bis man plötzlich davon überspült wird.

@Ruth_Mottram regarding office, LibreOffice should just be fine for school stuff (my own kids are complaining a bit, but in the end it lets them do what they want).
One good idea is to install MS font packages though to minimize differences to MS Office.

@Ruth_Mottram on mint you can install lots of fonts directly from the software center. Ttf-mscorefonts-installer covers the classical MS fonts.

    Is it really true that there's no way to get the current value from 's itertools.count()? All I can do is advance it and get the next value? The repr() shows the value, but I can't get an int?

    I was never to keen on going to America. I saw how their embassy staff treated my friends and family members when we, Poles, still needed visas, and I decided I will not humilitate myself by goint through that process.

    But now I don't want to go even more. It's not a civilised country. If you're not an US citizen, you have no rights. And as the article points, if you're mistreated, there is nothing you can do, as US is not a member of any international human right court

    @onegeekarmy GNOME if I can, xfce for all our older, less powerful computers, cinnamon on one machine for comparison, phosh on mobile, KDE via bazzite for gaming.
    A one-choice poll does not make much sense for me, but if I have to I'd classify myself as a GNOME user.

    With half of this year over, it's time for a brief check of how I'm doing with one of my plans for 2025.
    The humble goal is to contribute to one article per month on average as a compromise between my limited free time and my sense of guilt if I'm not giving back to a project I'm relying on daily.
    Current status: contribution to seven articles, so comfortably on track :-)
    Haven't written any new article, only added a few paragraphs or references to existing ones. Not much, but still feels good.

    If you're thinking now how much can it take to do a single contribution per month - once you try you start realizing just how high-quality most wikipedia content already is. So even if you think you know a fact that is missing from an article it's surprising how much time it takes to gather references and, more importantly, think about how the new info can be integrated into the existing structure with minimal changes to existing parts.
    Overall, an exercise that makes you appreciate more fully how much volunteer work has gone into this resource already!

    Ich konnte nicht anders und habe mal eine freundliche E-Mail verfasst, in der die anscheinend nicht verstandene Problematik und zig Alternativen genannt werden.

    Achso, und bitte nicht falsch verstehen: Wer Whatsapp nutzen will, soll das bitte machen (aber nachher nicht meckern), aber ich würde mir mindestens eine brauchbare Alternative wünschen.

    Screenshot der Begründung, warum Whatsapp genutzt wird. Warum WhatsApp? WhatsApp ist in Deutschland der meistgenutzte Messenger-Dienst. Der WhatsApp-Kanal (bzw. Channel) ist ein relativ neues Angebot von WhatsApp und wird von immer mehr Städten als Informationskanal genutzt – deshalb fiel die Wahl bewusst auf diesen Messenger. Der neue Kanal bietet die Möglichkeit, Informationen direkt aufs Smartphone zu senden – kurz, kompakt und ohne Registrierung. So müssen sich Interessierte nicht durch soziale Netzwerke klicken, sondern erhalten die wichtigsten Nachrichten der Stadtverwaltung dort, wo sie ohnehin unterwegs sind.

    @boris_pohler die Schule unserer Kinder beginnt ebenfalls JETZT mit der Bespielung eines instagram accounts mit ähnlicher Begründung (Informationen direkt aufs smartphone statt umständlicher Besuch der Schul-homepage. In den nächsten Tagen kommt die dazugehörige Anpassung der Daten"schutz"erklärung zum Unterschreiben.

    That you can leave London St. Pancras station at 17:30 CEST, cross the channel and most of France, and reach Strasbourg still on the same day before midnight by TRAIN(!) is just an amazing experience and Europe's high-speed rail connections are an incredibly cool achievement!

    Well, haven't arrived yet and only then will see what the German railway system has in stock for me for the rest of my trip, but the journey just feels good for the moment :-)
