i find it incredible that we can listen to some music from the 1950s-1970s at high quality. like you would expect crackling sounds or something due to old technology. some live concerts recorded back then sound miraculously incredible. like we managed to capture a fragment of time forever.

@csilverman not sure if youtube is your thing — watched this video explaining why modern music is getting worse: https://youtu.be/1bZ0OSEViyo?si=XaKJ7-YZnfw8Eib2

it is interesting to think how advance of technology doesn’t always mean outcomes will get better, wonder if this would apply to photos etc too.

because i woke up at 3am to go to the bathroom and couldn't fall back asleep, i went ahead to tag all the posts i published on my (moderate) covid cautiousness: https://winnielim.org/tag/covid-cautiousness/

i feel like we need a badge to explain which part of the covid cautiousness spectrum we are on in order to avoid misunderstandings. i still do things like travel, go to the gym, etc with a ffp2/ffp3 mask depending on the risk assessment, but i almost never meet people or dine indoors. but i go maskless outdoors except when it is crowded. i meet family with my mask on. i don't eat on flights.

in my assessment the highest risk is close contacts and unventilated spaces, hence.

had another elevated hr episode last week — 500+ days since i tested negative, reminding me again why i am trying to avoid another infection. the best way to avoid infection is to stay home (and even then there are still risks) but that would make me go insane so i have to weigh the risks. it sucks to choose between my mind and my body.

i guess it is good that i have had a lifetime’s practice of being a pariah since i don’t fit into both the covidisover and zerocovid groups

singapore has removed mask mandates for a long while now, but there seems to be always 10-20% of the population masking. i don’t think they keep up to date on the research about the virus’s true impact like i do, so why? since the pandemic is “over” and the social pressure must be great. my guess is that for them their infection was not “mild”. i’m not sure if it is my imagination, but instead of decreasing this 10-20% seems to be increasing as we go deeper into the pandemic.

every time i see a stranger wearing a mask i silently cheer for them

nobody talks about how much it takes to advocate for our selves when it comes to covid cautiousness or for chronic health issues. have to visit a dentist and it was hard for me (esp because i am conflict adverse) to request them to wear a n95 and also slot me into the first appointment so i don’t have to breathe in another patient’s breath. i’m already dealing with a dodgy heart rate, don’t want more post-covid symptoms.

on a nicer note, someone wrote a nice comment on how they found my “open air dining in seoul” post useful for their trip: https://winnielim.org/journal/open-air-dining-in-seoul/#comment-26747

it comforts me that there’re some of us still somewhat sane, that they wouldn’t want to catch a disabling virus.

glad someone wrote an article that covers how almost half of covid transmission may be asymptomatic, why being covid cautious is a social justice issue, and the loss and loneliness that comes with being covid cautious: https://boulderweekly.com/news/covid-safe-colorado/
