Tonight's Low Quality Ad is for these Hand-painted Yoga Sloth Wooden Earrings. Buddha was actually a sloth, but this was lost in translation. This is why humans never attain enlightenment. Only sloths are capable of doing so.

Why do I have a feeling the anti-choice crowd are going to ram immutability down our throats next after they force us all to use shitty Wayland (for our protection and security, ofc)?

I don't know who needs to hear this, but don't be like my former client and pull the CPE down and throw it in a field with standing water "to make it easier to deinstall" and not even inform me.

I made nog again

(DA NOG) -continuing...- - If using raw milk, hell yeah brother. Up to if you if you want to now pasturize the lot of it: hold at 72°C for a couple minutes, then put the whole pan in the freezer and chill, stirring every 30-45 minutes until desired temperature is reached - Optional: beat whites to stiff peaks, then fold through nog to add foamy fluffiness - Add booze to taste. Also perfectly drinkable without alcohol! Serves one, if I have anything to say about it.

Funny how of all the injustices and failures of accommodation in the world, Mastodon collectively decided that alt text supremacy was the crusade it would be remembered for

theodric OP ,
@theodric@social.linux.pizza avatar

@GroupNebula563 I've said for literally years now that alt text is a problem that should not have to be fixed by individual users, but could (with significantly less than our current level of technology) be handled on-device or on-server with computer vision to programatically describe images that have not already had alt text written for them, raising adoption to 100% and thereby benefiting people with vision issues maximally. However, since it's used as an in-group marker on Mastodon, there's no will behind that, because then we'd have to find a new signifier. Or am I too cynical?

It's a simple problem that could be fixed by the people who are paid to write the software. Perhaps I could be coerced into building something, but then there will be nobody to run my farm, and who will pay me?

Sometimes I don't post images because I simply don't have the energy/will/sobriety/time to write a description. 100% of users lose out on that content in order to not violate the social expectation to accommodate 2.8% of users. LOL -> funny -> share becomes lol -> funny -> spend a minute processing and then describing the picture in a way that would be meaningful to someone with zero visual context -> share. Let's not pretend this isn't labor-- something we as humans literally invented the idea of machines to avoid.

This is a technology platform. Technology should be at the core of it.

Anyway I have to go fix a broken pipe now, bye

@Daojoan these douchebags saw one story about a sole founder/small team sleeping at work through a push to get something to market first and decided to make it their whole corporate identity. I fell asleep twice on conference calls in my career, am I special enough to join the performative dedication club, too?

I've seen CEOs getting way too much hate on here lately. CEOs regularly go the extra mile so we know a company is in good hands. Take Meta, for example. Mark Zuckerberg holds quarterly meetings to convince investors that he's not a virgin. That's the kind of leadership that earns you the big bucks.

The O2, an entry level Unix workstation, was introduced in the mid 90s and came with a single MIPS CPU. Here, we see some baby Octanes, haha! It officially ran on IRIX UNix OS but also supported the Linux and BSD families of operating systems

Found this on Imgur pic of IRIS Indigo, a line of workstations developed and manufactured by SGI, was first announced in July 1991. It ran IRIX Unix and was well known for various apps in the 90s such as those used in 3D Graphics and Animation, and other industries. There was a time when workstation/desktop OSes spied zero on you, and you were in total control of your data, unlike Microsoft, which dominates this space these days.

    So on all my browsers I use https://tenbluelinks.org to ban the Google "AI" pollution from my Google searches.

    I'm now trying to switch to Firefox on my Android tablet. It turns out tenbluelinks does not work with Android Firefox (although it does with Android Chrome).

    So I go to look for an addon. It turns out https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/udm14/?utm_source=addons.mozilla.org&utm_medium=referral&utm_content=search that although Firefox for Android supports addons, on Android an addon cannot add a search engine.

    theodric ,
    @theodric@social.linux.pizza avatar

    @mcc thanks for making me aware of udm=14. I've just added the functionality to append that parameter to my Firefox extension, and also opened the extension up to Firefox for Android. I apologise for the trash UX on mobile, but it works! ¯_(ツ)_/¯

    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/android/addon/google-search-arguments/

    Screenshot of URL copy-pasted from a search performed with the extension active on Android, demonstrating that the extension has successfully appended the udm=14 parameter to the URL
