Bakersfield Hills No. 15

Some of the golden dry hills above Bakersfield, California along Hwy 58. I wanted to try a more angular and flat approach with this one and not add any curves and visual textures. I also departed from my usual square format and did this 3243 x 2050 px.

I like how you have carried parts outside the edge of the main body of the work. It gives the print a bit of a 3d feel. 🙂

Retire Spiral

Here is one of my experimental wire pieces I did back in 2010. I used Inkscape to design and produce the template for drilling the holes for the red tie wires to fit through. I used a hand drill to carefully drill the holes through the template that was printed in pieces on an inkjet printer and taped to the piece of 1/2 inch thick plywood. The black wire cable is some I purchased along with the red single strand wire from a DIY store. The diagonally placed stick is anchored to the panel with black uncoated wire and the end with the blue point is a tree twig.

I only created one other large 4 x 6 foot piece similar this one using the wire cable and red tie wires. I have a couple of ideas using this style that I have put on hold indefinitely.

I don’t really like the title I originally gave this one but so far I have not been able to come up with one more suitable.

Central Coastal No. 04
3000 x 3000 px | Infinite Painter 7 | Galaxy tablet | 2021

This is Spooners Cove on the California Central Coast. It is part of the Montana de Oro State Park. This view is looking north. There are lots of easy hiking trails in this area with a spectacular walk a little to the south along the Point Buchon Trail. I will be posting some more paintings I did of scenes along that trail. Stay tuned.

When I want to make some small shapes that are thick and sturdy I sometimes cut them out by hand with scissors or Xacto knife which is very tedious. When I have a lot I want to do and can get a hold of my daughters Cricut machine I can accurately cut a bunch from a whole sheet of cardstock.

I take the cut pieces and laminate them stacked together by gluing 6-8 of them with wood glue. I put them under a weight so they will set up flat. I usually paint the final shapes with acrylic paint to help seal the paper. Then I can use the finished shapes as needed.

Large complex “ghost print” monoprint with embossing. A ghost print reuses previously printed elements that deposit traces of the earlier print.
