“Mr. Vance used a jocular and slightly vulgar epithet to describe the temperature, where he was wearing jeans and a parka, but no hat or gloves.”

The “Gray Lady” New York Times often seems to think it’s still 1955.

Fearful of offending blue-haired doyennes on The Upper East Side, it can’t bring itself to use a character-revealing direct quote from a Yale-educated faux “Everyman” who said, “It’s cold as shit here!”

“Many of his colleagues conceded privately on Friday that Mr. Schumer was doing the job of a leader: protecting his members from damaging votes and shouldering the blame for difficult decisions.”

I REALLY want to know the names of his “many” colleagues who conceded this privately. How many is “many”? Are they all part of Schumer’s leadership team? How many did The New York Times hear from directly?

I’m pretty skeptical of the reporting here…

A fascinating piece by my friend John Hasse about the 50th anniversary of a jazz classic: “The Köln Concert” by Keith Jarrett.

I bought the album when it came out but never knew Keith had to play the concert on an absolute clunker of a piano!

@karlauerbach ECM issued some really good recordings in the 70s. “Sargasso Sea” by guitarists John Abercrombie and Ralph Towner (1976) was on my turntable a lot.

The folks at The Washington Post must be so proud their paper is owned by this guy…

“In 2011, a year in which his wealth held roughly steady at $18 billion, Bezos filed a tax return reporting he lost money — his income that year was more than offset by investment losses. What’s more, because, according to the tax law, he made so little, he even claimed and received a $4,000 tax credit for his children.”
