I didn't know PayPal requires you to forcefully open an account, to pay for just one thing once. The site I was purchasing from only had that one payment method.

Not happy about it. I had an account years ago that I closed because I couldn't really use it for anything.

I guess I now have an account again, against my will.

Lol got chills just playing a memory of the First Sinner theme from Silksong in my head, talk about effectiveness.

And yes, I have a jukebox in my head that replays music I really like.

Growing wings to go wherever the heck I want on this earth? Heck yeah!!

Although, I wager I wouldn't be able to carry too much around :P

It's been a couple of weeks since I am away from home and I'm already missing my bike :p Its app is also reminding me that I haven't been using it since then, which is not helping lol

Meh, got to the airport far too early. People complain about being late, but me? Nah, I complain about being too early, 1 hour earlier than anticipated, 1 more hour I wll have to spend, basically parking my butt until flight.

To be honest, it does make me a little nervous to run KDE updates that request me a reboot to complete, knowing I still have a pesky shutdown issue to fix. More often than not I end up powering off via the physical button (like on old Win95 machines xD).

Still not sure how to amend that problem. Some of the common workarounds didn't worked so far.

Should I blame nVidia? again? lol

Lol a few weeks ago AWS went down and half of the internet went down with it, now CloudFlare is down, and the other half of the internet is down, what if one day both are down? xD

It's pretty amazing how far this dude has come to make an accurate audio simulation of a combustion engine. The last clips he shows are really spot on.

Lol, why KDE devs hide this crucial feature since 2018? Also why isn't it a button in the vaults app yet? xD Anyway, at least it does what I wanted, which is import an existing vault, been playing around with cloud sync and editing in different systems.

If you're on KDE6, this command will open the import wizard. A bit finicky with the paths, but it works.

webpack is cursed. It keeps failing me with a 'missing X package' error in the last 15 attempts to process assets. The fuck is the 2 package manager it uses for if not for telling me what packages I need?

"Oh, you want to use SASS? Install this"
"You have SASS? you also need the loader"
"You wanted to output my config? install this"
"Wait, to read that JS file you need this other package"
"Also you need this that fixes X package you added"

Seriously, how did this happen?

@rayko@raykoworld.com avatar rayko , to random

I think I'll activate plan B in regards to Win10: get a sepparate SSD, setup a debian + KDE, and start experimenting with the compatibility, without fully giving up on my Win10. It's gonna be a tri-boot system lol but I can use the remains of Win10 mostly offline if needed, and slowly bring up stuff.

I'm 100% sure I'll have to give up some stuff though, but will see. Can also slowly reduce Win10 stuff to the minimum.

Bye bye star citizen I guess :/ (I paid for it tho)

Such a chimera system xD

rayko OP ,
@rayko@raykoworld.com avatar

Got me self a new SSD so plan B is in motion. Now to obtain my favorite distro and I'll start this switch to see how far I can get.

Maybe I'll document the process and maybe put up some pages about it for every software and hardware I bring in onto the new OS. We'll see.

There's a considerable journey ahead for this.

Gonna try my luck with FreeCAD one more time, and try designing something I want to construct. I do like the idea of constraints for designing a thing (a tools drawer in my case), but it's totally backwards to what I'm used to do in Blender.

It'll either cause my brain to bleed, or produce something that doesn't explode by looking at it too hard lol Goal is to produce a blueprint out of it, which is one of the purposes of FreeCAD.

I can still do it in Blender with some precision if I fail.

rayko OP ,
@rayko@raykoworld.com avatar

This is new. Had an older version of FreeCAD and noticed it's now a 1.x so I grabed it. Messing around with the workbenches tried this, out of curiosity.

Pretty cool!

Still hurts my brain, but it's a start. Kinda figuring out a workflow here, but I'm totally not looking forward to design the screws I'm gonna use D: Maybe I can find a standarized set to rely on, like KiCAD footprint parts.

Little video of FreeCAD window I was working with, that shows the exploded view tool it has. My object is just a box with an open front. As I use the exploded view tool, by dragging a gizmo, all walls of the box sepparate radially from the center.

Using the Assembly workbench in FreeCAD. Added some more pieces. It does look like a rack but it isn't xD Though I like the rack look. Also, don't judge my wheels :p they are just placeholders.

If you are going to do assemblies in this program, do not group objects within the assembly, it seems to break stuff and joints. Probably a bug in how the tree works.

This is FreeCad 1.0.2 by the way. A bit of a mixed bag so far, but I think I'm getting the hang of it.

rayko OP ,
@rayko@raykoworld.com avatar

Deleted a part and it imploded D:

Future construction omen? I don't know, but I do know I will have to start this again from scratch, as I also re organize this awkward tree of objects.

The wonders of doing stuff without knowing.

rayko OP ,
@rayko@raykoworld.com avatar

Now it looks like a decent thing. And it's obvious what I'm trying to build here too :p

Plan is to take real measures out of this and build it in MDF. I do need to add some inside things first, but I kinda need the parts on my hand to model them for hole placements, so I guess it's time for some shopping lol

For now, FreeCAD is telling me that the total height of this thing is what I was expecting and should fit where I intend to put it, so that's good.

rayko OP ,
@rayko@raykoworld.com avatar

Getting there, crafted like 10 pages with specs like these, and I don't know if it will be enough lol

This is quite some work to do, consdiering a few times crashed on me.

I think I will be able to place an order soon for all the board pieces, it's a lot of wood for what it is xD

Quite excited to reach fabrication and see how well (or poorly) I did.

Another technical drawing from FreeCAD, describing a single drawer with general measures. There are 4 orthographic views this time showing front, top, left side, and one more view at an angle. The drawer is quite shallow on purpose.

rayko OP ,
@rayko@raykoworld.com avatar

As I continue to discover for this little project, I think I have one tip to give about TechDraw.

I was quite frustrated at my pages being rebuilt and messed up. This happened because I was placing a view from an entire assembly and wanted only to show a few sub-parts of it, toggling visibility in the tree. That's wrong apparently.

Instead, select teh individual sub-parts to make the view.

This doesn't work with sub-assemblies though. But can duplicate and use visibility on them.

rayko OP ,
@rayko@raykoworld.com avatar

I do have to admit that the software is quite finicky to work with. Right now I have a ton of errors in my simple project that I have no idea how to debug or check. Although it works for my purposes.

But I can't complain too much because the software is capable of a zillion things (maybe too many), and I'm just using a handful of them. Plus it's free.

Reminds me of Blender when it started. Even today Blender tries to do too much, but does it better than before.

rayko OP ,
@rayko@raykoworld.com avatar

LOL Made some changes to make my drawer handles a little prittier and my entire file basically imploded beyond repair. Had to make everything almost from scratch again.

Assemblies in (the out-of-the-box workbench), is quite new AFAIK. And apparently it doesn't support too many levels of nested assemblies.

Can only have one sub assembly that is not made of other assemblies, otherwise it turns into fireworks.

Also need to double check 'Rigid' property is true on sub assemblies.

rayko OP ,
@rayko@raykoworld.com avatar

The best approach I found so far to make TechDraw pages showing parts of an object, is to make sepparate assemblies with the parts I want in a page view. For example, I have my full case assembly that shows in one page. Another page shows only a side of the case and some internal elements for placement. I made another assembly just with those. That way I have no errors so far, and pages works as intended, even with changes.

rayko OP ,
@rayko@raykoworld.com avatar

Placed the order for the boards I need and also bought most of the screws I will be using, and you know what? I already messed up the screw types and amounts lol something had to go wrong, noted the wrong lengths for some pieces. Now just praying I didn't mess up the board sizes that I would be picking up in a week or so.

Once I have the boards, construction will begin, along with 3D printing some spacers to help.

Moment of truth right around the corner 😬

rayko OP ,
@rayko@raykoworld.com avatar

The time has come to turn this pile of things into what I have been planning this whole time. I'll have work to do in the next days to make it happen. It will either be perfect, or a complete disaster xD I don't know yet. At least the board sizes look right.

Need to finish 3D printing some additional things though, but that's already in motion as well (literally :p)

Gonna need a fair bit of luck to not mess this up.

    Progress!! I'm pretty happy about how this part came out. Although it's not as perfect as I thought, but very solid. Nailed the general measurements, it fits perfectly where it's going to be, exactly how I modeled it in FreeCAD earlier.

    This was the easy part though. Tomorrow starts the hard part 😬

    Aaand! Done! From model to reality.

    This has put a much needed smile on my face. Went way better than I expected. Glad to confirm I can still make something decent, and I can say I did something useful this entire year.

    Missed an opportunity to engrave something with my laser engraver though. Next time probably. I think I will build another one since I have another space to put a second one. Really useful already, now my workspace is better organized.

    Been having a weird pain near the joint of my right thumb for a while now without knowing why. I'm starting to think it's because of my play through of Silksong, since I spent all my free time since release non-stop (around a week's worth of free time that is). And the pain is almost exactly in the location where I press the jump button on my gamepad.

    Lol I refuse to believe a gamepad messed up my thumb because I played too hard. It's not going away either even though I stopped the fixation.
