I stayed at someones' house last week and they have a cat. And I never knew this but, when you go to sleep... cats just wander about the house catting all night? You can't "put a cat to bed"?! The cat just... gets the house for a while?! Fucking nuts.

@aral i can't find it at the moment, but i have a post somewhere that is essentially "fascism is the natural conclusion of capitalism." I probably made some wordplay about metastatic capitalism or terminal capitalism, because capitalism has a lot of parallels with cancer.

"Standard" : Not doing anything shady here or anything you're just a normal guy asking normal questions. Red green and blue have all had it far too good for far too long.

"Khronos PBR Neutral" : Your favorite Star Trek was TNG. Your favorite graphics API is Vulkan. You saw a color square at the modern art museum and it ruined your day once. You're an excellent mediator and excel at finding compromises everyone feels weird about.

@aeva so i don't know how this translates to 3d pbr, but the 2d digital artists I've watched process video of will definitely start with picking palettes and return to them, blend them with transparency and layers. the trouble is that i have no idea what that would mean in a system that controls the light independently from the "color" of the surface (under what circumstances?)

even though we're compiling single-threaded by default, we'd still like to catch dependency issues early.

for this purpose, I added fuzzing to the toposorter, so that all conceptually parallel instructions have a different execution order with every compilate, simulating a race condition.

first pic is the test code, other pics are example outputs from three recompiled binaries.

    how did they do skeletal animation before they had quaternions? at least, i'm pretty sure they weren't using quaternions for this in the N64/PSX era but maybe im wrong?

    @aeva paying for software is always optional if you believe in yourself.

    HOWEVER in the spirit of the question, yes, have given optional payments above $0 as well as optional payments above ${some other positive amount}, but not at every opportunity.

    i don't pay for software whose development is supported by a foundation or corporation, typically. I am furthest from the type of user that could be said to shirk a responsibility here: i make zero dollars from these projects and am likely to find another free alternative rather than pay if one solution turns out to stop working.

    I'm likely to to throw some bucks at "one dude(gn)'s weird tool that actually has incredible utility" especially if there's a known/trusted channel for such. i like this about itch. although i mostly only get games and game-adjacent things there, which I'm generally inclined to pay for from small authors/studios.

    @aeva software is a funny thing, because making it is clearly a creative process, but unlike media creativity it can create things of practical utility.

    you've enumerated some ways that software makers can get funded (corporate interest, relying on existing popularity, really good self promotion) and i think they'll have a lot of analogues in music or "fine art." I wonder if there's any more parallels to be found there.

    (this is all speculative for me. I work in the service industry, vet med, so my custom comes from announcing "i can do a thing! for you, if you pay me!")
