Yester-day, because I still have all the sensibilities of a 10-year-old, I asked my mum who she thought would win in a fight between the Shepherds and the Magi. She picked the Shepherds, which, fair, I guess, they're outdoors guys, they're used to physical labour, but I think she's underestimating the esoteric tactical planning that the Magi could bring to this fight.
Just a reminder that Watanabe Mayu/Tsukamoto Mariko remains on this year's influential Courtney's Most Requested Couples list. https://song.link/y/RSDTufJG230
I keep thinking of this short I stumbled upon not because it's a very cutely animated piece but because all the background footage is so familiar to me from spending so much by the sea in Enoshima. That cat! I've stroked that cat and fed him treats! That house! That's the run down house I want to buy! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DV0hw-0kiPw
At what point was it that you, an adult, began to feel a distinct nostalgia around the idea of school festivals? Was it with the release of the Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi?
I remember the old days when the Macross youtube channel would just livestream entire “concerts” made in the Uta Macross game engine editor… but I think they stopped doing it when they realised I was the only person watching. https://youtu.be/Wogg3h9e7d4?si=vn01XZARXoPeuLd1
Long story short, I bought my first pair of over the ear headphones in a decade or so, and walking back from Ochanomizu through Akihabara in the warm early autumn night with the whole world blocked out, there’s a lot to be said for listening to Slow Crush in this way. https://youtu.be/jt7nw5Vig04?si=z4ImEtUcDoxisAqO
The new Girls2 video is just… it’s the worst in the best way possible. I die inside looking at these outfits and yet I keep watching this video. https://youtu.be/cR44asHrlqw?si=InUxpjKFLHXSesOX
Conversely, everything about the new =LOVE release is effortless perfection. Even the weird fursona bit. Oh my gosh, is Sashihara coming out as a furry in 2025? https://youtu.be/_cf4UTe1qrY?si=7J5FG4SsVXhOj5QC
There is a whole display for the new single in Tower Records, with the rarer versions already sold out, but all three record shops are doing a thing where they give you a card and you get a stamp in each store when you buy the CD which nets you get an extra photo card, and trust me, friends, I genuinely thought about buying everyone I know =LOVE singles for Christmas.
I made @moonsea turn this one moment of Iori into a little icon for me and now I can't stop watching it. Ahh. It makes me want to smash something up, she's so cute.
I got excited for this as I thought for one brief second that Yukirin was going to do something with 22/7, but it turns out she is kind of a judge for new auditions, which is fair, no one knows more about being an idol than Yukirin. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a6Hie0XlQXA
Of the three girls in this video, it was this girl, Akari, contestant 17, who really stood out to me. I like Noa and Alice, I think Alice is already ahead of the game in terms of confidence, but... Akari's uncertainty and nervousness reminded me of something more honest. I would take a girl imperfect and anxious over anyone certain of their talents any day of the week.
I know this expression, I've been in situations like this. I think the other girls will make better idols in the modern landscape of the entertainment industry, but this girl, if she can make it through, this girl with her honesty and anxiety is the real thing.
I'm really sad to inform you that Akari didn't make it into 22/7, coming in 14th place, just outside the top ten. Noa came in 4th, but didn't make it to the final line up either. Alice did, however, coming in 9th and now a full member of the group. https://nanabunnonijyuuni.fandom.com/wiki/Alice_Kurosaki
I am making my way through the weekend edition of the Financial Times and also through the Nathaniel Hawthorn's Scarlet Letter (Norton Critical Edition), what are you reading this Sunday?
