Physical user interface

I am fairly new to home automation and I am looking to add a few physical wall switches to devices that don't have a specific wall switch of their own. I have a couple rooms where I want to put a light on a smart bulb/plug/relay but want to be able to turn the light on/off via a physical interaction at the door, like a normal ...

halfwaythere ,

I have moved all my switches to Inovelli. The recently came out with light switches with mmwave imbedded that automatically run my kitchen dinning dimmable lights. They work with dumb/smart lights ceiling fans. They have signed and zwave. They are made in USA so if you are against that then I would recommend Shelly they are pretty solid devices too.

halfwaythere ,

Just like gas prices..

jack up the prices,
let the people groan about it and go through the stages of grief,
bring it back down slightly to let them feel like they are getting a good deal at the new elevated prices.

Profit.

If you eat like shit, that info can be sold to health providers, insurance for that sweet sweet premium increases too.

halfwaythere ,

Slightly. Temporary workaround, switch to landscape to be able to interact with the bar.

Covered menu bar

I don't believe you can visually identify asbestos in paint and or other materials. There may be indicators but to be sure you need it tested.

In my neck of the US, I was required to take samples to a lab for testing prior to dumping during a remodel. Think it was about 135 for exterior paint and plater/drywall. Check your local regulations.

That's a pretty subjective ask. My tolerance for the amount of NPCs is going to be different than yours. If it wasn't for you before you might want to work with a crew cause it didn't feel like a change.

With that said the first new mission is a timed puzzle PITA solo. Doable yeah sure. The NPCs seemed to be the same the worms respawns relentlessly while you are trying to complete the first puzzle that resets after a certain about of radiation bursts. I also had 3 different players arrive while I was doing the mission. That seems to be a change. I rarely got encounters before.

Idk either way you're just going to have to try it out yourself to see if you can tolerate it. Good luck and maybe see you in the verse.

PS: Don't fall into the worm pool like I just did.

Not sure about an icon or flag to depict the idea of announcing Hey I'm For Privacy!! Feels like it goes against the whole principle. It's along the same lines of stickers on a vehicle, stick family tells (most times) exactly how many people and animals w/types are within the household, gun logos indicate a high probability of an abundance of weaponry, a privacy flag may promote someone to look deeper into you with the premise well they want privacy so they must have something to hide, mentality. I'm private I don't need to draw attention to me being private. But you do you. Just my opinion.

halfwaythere ,

How so?? It looks like he's looking at the back of his hand?

halfwaythere ,

Just what I need a better way to doom scroll

halfwaythere ,

That was a good attempt at minimizing the effects of someone of this stature making a statement like this.

It's a public statement saying to the extremely devout religious members that the high officials condone the deaths of these Nations people.

I mean it always has been okay. But now it's even more okay. Again.

Kinda like the high officials of these nations did to their military. So it's all balance right?

But it's not cause the religious extremist will attack soft targets intentionally.

Learn! Or don't.

My first toe dip into Linux so many years ago I did the same thing copy paste everything. Then got curious. You may be interested or may not be.

$600 on Pre-Sale Sale? For gloves that don't even have built in tracking. Smells like vaporware to me.

halfwaythere OP ,

I agree that would be helpful. I'm just going off what is available with what is currently available in the app. Ive only been on the website once so really don't know all the available data points

Cause Microsoft's history with security has been stellar so far.

So misinformed. Civilians absolutely can and do salute. They have since the beginning of time. It is a sign of respect and acknowledgement. Whether a full fledged "military" style salute or a hand wave like the royals and civilians do or a tip of the hat like "cowboys" do. There is no implied "stolen valor" if a civilian wants to salute another civilian or a person in the military or of high position.

And of course you can choose not to salute like I assume you do.

Edit: this in no way should imply I support the people in this article. Just stating facts

halfwaythere , (edited )

Tradition sure. Most people don't. But they most assuredly can and do. I speak as the person who had to give a death by power point to my company due to a soldier in our unit getting into a scuffle with a civi that saluted during reveille and as per tradition PowerPoint/education based on history and regulations was the answer for preventive measures.

The only reason I even spoke to this now is the "stolen valor" aspect you presented initially and to inform the rest of the people that feel this is awkward for just anyone to do.

The truly awkward part is the way most do the "military" salute wrong. American or otherwise. I'd say it's a tell tell sign of them not being in the military but there are plenty of soldiers that don't do it correctly either so

halfwaythere ,

Completely relate. It's frustrating watching someone LARP something you take pride in. Absolutely nothing wrong with disliking the guy for his actions. And hell, you can still not like him for this, with the knowledge he's not really in the wrong. This time.

V2V Respect.

I use a Scanner Radio (Android) app for "emergency" events. Duno if iPhone has an app like it.

For actual news local radio or OTA but I rarely tune in.

This methodology came about after being annoyed stressed out and fed up with the way things are going. Everyone blames they want change but 1 out of 3.35 milare willing to attempt to make a change. Not fully saying violence is the way but it sure seems like it worked for the rich and powerful.

Can you shoot?
Can you move?
Can you communicate?

Then who the fuck cares who you prefer to be involved with!? Especially when a lot of soldiers/officers seem to like to be with other people's wives/husbands!

I have a question regarding VPN usage in South Korea and Saudi Arabia. I may go for short term work in either South Korea or Saudi for a few months. Does anybody have any idea, how safe it is to use a VPN as a foreigner in these countries? Worse case scenario, can I use a VPN in a Azure VM and scp torrent downloaded files or ...

Most structures are designed to deal with specific loads and stresses. If that structure experiences something it's not intended to experience then things like the tail being ripped off is not as hard as one would think.

Racism. Christian extremism. Both not exclusive to themselves. Both have felt ignored and feed on the the thoughts of being victims due to their "unpopular" beliefs. There is much more to this subject but this is the best I can simplify it.

halfwaythere ,

The more mainstream it becomes the more people will start hacking these systems.

halfwaythere ,

You could get yourself a RF analyzer or an old Hammy (Ham radio enthusiast would likely have something you could borrow)and find out what they are using then that would allow you to figure out your options such as removing the antenna, sim card, or the module in some manner. The problem with removing modules could be they are tied into the cars electronic controller which could cause issues with the car even working.

You make it sound like these people have a bone in their bodies to take the fight to their government.. all a bunch of hot air. Even the ex military ain't got it in them. Not many people are willing to sacrifice their lives for their ideals.

Yup bought the nano thinking it would be good for a home assistant plus some AI voice processing stuff and was severely disappointed. Not only is it slow but you are basically locked into Nvidias OS unless you know how to mess with bootloader's.

halfwaythere ,

Yeah. This was obviously wishful thinking. It was also my knee jerk reaction to jumping on to AI with minimal research. I figured that it would be better suited for the whisper tts/stt but it just didn't run well. Then I attempted to throw HAOS various other versions of nix and that's when I threw in the towel cause the bootloader seems to do a sig check on boot. If it's not the Nvidia image it just hangs. Oh well. I now have an old comp running good enough to experiment with the likes of llama mixtral on just a 2070 with on average 2-3 sec delay. More if I ask too big of a question.

Again freedom of religion includes freedom FROM religion. And these nut jobs. The big difference is that sane people are willing to allow these people to believe what they want but they (religious extremists) are intolerant of others thinking differently from them.

In stand by you figure that the volatile memory needs to be kept powered so I'm kinda not surprised when the nature of the battery discharging when "shutdown" is a thing.

No.

Sand to wafers…
Fortunately, there is no shortage of raw material. Silicon is the second most common element in the earth’s crust, comprising about 26% and exceeded only by oxygen at 49%. But silicon does not occur naturally in the pure form needed for electronic applications, for which it must contain less than one in a billion non-silicon atoms. The starting material really is sand. Not just any sand, but silica sand, specially quarried for this purpose and having concentrations of quartz (silicon dioxide) as high as 95%.

As someone who is not religious in any form besides childhood indoctrination, all I can say is jesus fucking christ. Our country needs a purge of religious extremists. Do your fucking thing. Let me do mine. Don't push your beliefs on me. Freedom of religion also means freedom FROM religion.

halfwaythere ,

Each of the orbs are the atoms. The brighter orbs that are nearest each other at the Praseodymium (Pr) atoms. The single orbs are the Scandium (Sc) atoms and the less prominent orbs are the Oxygen atoms. I believe based on the content of the article. The space between is just that, the space between the atoms. They are all in a lattice pattern due to how they are attracted to each other.

Ha! You think the American public has the backbone to take anything by force? Not fucking likely. Corps will utilize law enforcement who are already militarized. Large part of the bell curve of the population can't even think for themselves let alone coordinate to do something productive. They haven't got what it takes to stand up for themselves. They think they do but they don't. This goes for both sides of the 2 party system.

halfwaythere ,

Replacement level for whom? To sustain the current population? Population growth? Status quo? Corporations?

Not sure any of these things are needed to be sustained at the levels we are currently at.

Someone please explain the detrimental repercussions of not having an equal to or greater than replacement level.

halfwaythere ,

Should be of no surprise that overly religious people believe in conspiracy theories!

halfwaythere , (edited )

??!!??What??!!?

I give two shits about Wells Fargo. So my issue is with your position of not trying children in criminal courts. What should societies do about children running amok and doing whatever they want? What do you think we should do to educate them about the repercussions of committing crimes?

halfwaythere ,

Firstly thanks for replying.

Therapy, works, when the individual wants to change. At this level of crime there is a slim chance of that desire.

Their peers are likely part of the reason they are committing these crimes. Too much freedom due to the environment that they were born into , by no choice of their own, also contributed. To be clear I don’t even blame the parents most of the time. Even they can’t out influence the friends group. The abuse, well it’s no lie that the judicial system needs to be fixed at ALL levels, but where’s the money in that?

Your method needs to happen way before they get to this point so that they have less of a chance to get here.

So between juvi and therapy there still isn’t a resolution to fix them all. Or even fix a greater percentage of offending children.

These kids, not likey anything will fix one of them let alone all of them. Am I shity for giving up on correcting their learned behavior? Yeah most likely. Facing consequences for ones actions still seems to be the answer for me.

You are a better person than me.

halfwaythere ,

You could say that with most any hardware. You could have a dedicated server fail and have your network be down till you got another instance up or have a “fall back” kick in.

What makes Rasp Pi so much more unstable? If anything a couple PIs are definitely a cheaper solution compared to other hardware like you are suggesting?

halfwaythere ,

Reolink is a Chinese company. Not known for their privacy. My experience with their cameras is the quality is meh and their software is even more meh. It amazes me how often they get recommended. I guess it’s due to their cheapness.

My education according to my student loans.

halfwaythere ,

This is my first time hearing this saying as well being a yank and all. Anyways, I currently work for a company that had a meeting with biscuits (doughnuts) and pretty much everyone that showed up was let go. Those that by chance had something else to do, dodged the shady way to fire people. Legal issues insu no. Needless to say doughnuts are not common around here and when they do get brought in this event always gets brought up.

Leave it to corporate America to pervert something that is supposed to be nice.

I have my lights set to turn on slightly before I am supposed to wake, turn off after I go to work, before I return from home, and after I go to bed. I’ve recently added mmwave sensors to turn them on and off based on my presence within a room. I can do all kinds of automations that I could do manually sure but if I don’t need to and can minimize the amount of excess energy waste then why wouldn’t I want a wirelessly controlled switch and or lights?

And yes most everyone can do this. Google Home Assistant and get lost in the rabbit hole.

Prevent sensor sync when not connected to wifi?

As the title says, I currently don’t have a reliable method to connect to my home network due to pivpn having issues. In the mean time my phone trys to synced sensors constantly and is one of the power sinks. Is there a way to turn off sync when I am not connected to wifi or even better when I’m not at home?

halfwaythere OP ,

Thanks I’ll give that a try!
