Thanks for a write up that fully reflects my view on the situation. Posted this a few times: everything single topic on here gets immediately politicized - and there's only one truth on 0db nowadays.
Discord announced on Monday that it’s rolling out age verification on its platform globally starting next month, when it will automatically set all users’ accounts to a “teen-appropriate” experience unless they demonstrate that they’re adults. ...
In order of ease of use; Nobara (Fedora based), popOS (Mint/Ubuntu based), cachyOS (Arch based, easy enough to use but might be overwhelming because of the amount of linux jargon going on) over bazzite, depending on your friend ability and wish to tinker around with his OS.
I have had problems even dragging dropping files across apps in bazzite and other immutable distros like bluefin. If your friend is interested in tinkering just a little bit then he will be be banging his head across a wall with bazzite. The community support for these relatively new immutable distros is also quite bad when it comes to edge cases.
Sounds good. Valve are doing a lot of things right but I often find that they go under the radar when compared to similar stories around Google and Apple.
In many ways I agree but the point of not being able to use expansion packs across platforms is a kind of lock in. I wish more tech companies were like Valve for sure, but they too need to be kept on check.

Remember that we gain more traction by accepting that some people regret voting for Trump rather than hanging them out to dry. Yes, I she sounds stupid too, but calling people stupid won't make them join our team. "It's OK, we all make mistakes - let's talk about your feelings about trans-rights and why it scares you".
I’m not telling harmed or marginalized people how they should feel or behave. And you are right in that no one owes their oppressors patience, forgiveness, education. What I’m talking about is strategy, not morality. Also, I feel like you are overinterpretating the quote. Nowhere does she say that she wants to harm or hurt LGBTQ people. She might, but that's just us speculating.
If someone says “I regret voting for Trump,” that doesn’t make them redeemed, safe for criticism. But it does open a crack that can create an opportunity to make her shift position. If the response to that crack is only condemnation, then the crack closes and nothing changes.
You might be right in saying that LGBTQ people shouldn't be the ones doing this work. That burden shouldn’t be expected to fall on those already harmed. It can be done by people with enough distance to engage without being hurt.
Calling someone a “repugnant human being” may be emotionally justified. It may even be deserved. But it does not move them away from anti-trans politics. It hardens them or pushes them back to the people who tell them they’re right to be afraid. To me, this is mostly a matter of the unfortunate educational system that you have in the US (I'm from DK btw).
You’re right that remorse without understanding isn’t enough. But understanding rarely comes after social exile. It usually comes after conversation, friction, and discomfort. No one has to play nice. But if the goal is fewer people supporting policies that harm LGBTQ people, then writing off every regretful (stupid or uneducated, whatever works for you) voter as irredeemable is a losing tactic. Even if it feels righteous.
That’s the only point I’m making. But I understand your point of view.
I would like this to be true (which is fucked up when you think about it), but do we actually have hard evidence or is this still just speculation? Sure, a lot of information indicates that Trump & co has been involved in sexual abuse with Epstein. Not trying to be a troll or bait, but we need to base our claims on facts and evidence or else we will become just like Trump & co - liars and conspirators.
Hasn't these microblog services not just become an outlet for famous people i.e. actors, singers, models, politicians, influencers etc. and even government to post stuff? In some countries even the police use these platforms to communicate to the public even before using other outlets.
In theory yes. In practice? Say ice gets on the big main instance (like 90% of the users does anyway, would be my guess). The admins on this big main instance will allow the ice account to exist. Now what? Everyone defed with the big main instance? It will blow up the entire fediverse or nothing will happen and the last 10% will sit in their small fedi silos being tankies and talk about how America is a pedo nazi state (sorry about that last rant but jesus christ everything turns political on Lemmy from the first comment on nearly every post).
Yes, there are Nazis all over the world. That wasn't your initial point. You said that America is being filled up with Nazis. I dont like MAGA not Nazis, but I do have the cognition needed to understand that MAGA and Nazis aren't the general population in America. I don't know why you have the need to spread this fear and lies.
Sorry if my comment came off like that. No, what I meant is that my experience with the comment sections on Lemmy generally is battle of who is a tankie, nazi, corrupt, pedos. Probably overgeneralization. And that the fediverse is so fragile that defeding with the biggest instances will end in Lemmy will die. I hope that I'm wrong.

A lot of debate on this in Denmark. Not a shared opinion amongst the people or political parties. Law might be in place but it's another thing to inact it. Denmark won't stand a chance anyway.
I came back to linux with bluefin from windows. The concept is cool but I often found various issues with fx dragging/dropping files between apps or other interactions between apps due to the containerized approach. Had to switch because of this - mileage varies based on what apps you use. -> Opensuse but had issues with laggy YouTube the first time I opened a video, didn't want to deal with it (amd setup btw) -> cachyOS, freaking love it. Everything works, it's fast and the rolling arch style haven't broken yet
Completely wild to me to think that creating services and content doesn't come for free and ads are the primary avenue for making money to make it sustainable + people don't want for things they can get for free elsewhere.
It actually is a problem for small businesses, especially start ups. Not agreeing with the approach but the GDPR law is extremely complicated to find your way around - talking from experience. Support the idea, implementation could be better.
Care to explain or do you simply call anyone you disagree with for fascists? Words matter, so stop pushing this "baaaah everyone in government are fascists". It is incorrect and honestly tiring to hear (speaking to a relatively large group of lemmies who always throw the Nazi or fascist card when that disagree on politics).
I was interested in your perspective. You are free to have your own opinions. You blocking me doesn't really help your case. Runs well with you calling people you disagree with for fascists. Disagree with me and you stop the conversation because I disagree. Great mindset to have a democratic debate - something I would think that you would be interested in, qua your views. Guess not.
