In the past I have removed and cleaned for a job

I think it was one of the more dangerous jobs I've had, we came super prepared and kept to strict regulations

Please don't mess around with this stuff, it can be super dangerous with extreme consequences in the long term

@stux The freakiest part of the video for me was all the naturally occurring stuff. Not like I'm going to go hiking in a dusty desert or or anything, but still.

Oh dopey me. I don't know why I tagged yesterday's photo FensterFreitag because it clearly wasn't Friday and there were no Fensters. Well what can I say? Even light sabers, when they age, get less and less sharp.

Anyway, here is a picture of my favorite building in all of San Francisco: the 190-foot tall concrete grain silos on Pier 90. Built around 1920, the silos are now abandoned. Having ceased operations following the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake, they are sadly slated for demolition, date to be determined.

Honestly, I will miss this giant behemoth on the waterfront. Massive buildings thrill me... and, photographically speaking, asphalt and concrete are the meat and potatoes of urban photography while trees and bushes are just vegetables, side dishes, readily pushed aside. You may quote me on that 😉

Happy Monday, everyone. It is raining here in San Francisco.

🎥 The Ballad of Genesis and Lady Jaye (2011)

Sad that this was made after Lady Jaye was dead. It would have been more interesting with their participation. As it is, this is more like “The Ballad of Genesis (With a Focus on Lady Jaye)”.

(Warning: If, like me, you get motion sickness from unsteady camera, this has a lot of handheld stuff in it.)

Tonight’s movie: "The Bridge on the River Kwai"

Without spoiling it for anyone, is Nicholson’s (Guinness) final act an accident or on purpose?

I wonder..

Have you been taught in-depth about the First & Second World War in school?

clonezone ,
@clonezone@mastodon.social avatar

@stux Historical event that I've learned about outside of school that I most wish that I had learned about in school: the Haitian Revolution.

There are two ways that servers on here can accept new members:

-Sign-ups where you join instantly

-Sign-ups where the server moderator has to manually approve your membership

Approval sign-ups make moderation much more effective, but some people seem to find them more difficult.

If you are someone who finds approval sign-ups more difficult, could you explain the main thing putting you off?

(By the way, this isn't meant to be judgmental, just want to find out what the main barriers are! 🙂 )

clonezone ,
@clonezone@mastodon.social avatar

@FediTips I would never join anything with restricted registration. I am never going to put myself under the potential disapproval of some arbitrary dictator. It raises the hackles. How dare you judge me?

It's time for the second episode of "Ask Veronica!" This time, I'd like to talk about "distros."

Ask me distro questions, and I'll distill the common threads into a video for YouTube/PeerTube!

You can ask me here, or via email: ask (at) [the name of my channel] (dot) net.

@vkc What's with the deprecation of lsb_release in favor of /etc/os-release for identifying which distro that you're on?

@HannahHowe@toot.wales avatar HannahHowe , to random

For debate.

The Daleks were essential to Doctor Who becoming a television phenomenon 🤔

clonezone ,

@HannahHowe Ummm… that's a debate? Or am I missing some context?

I need help settling an argument.

Hypothetically of course, would “coronal mass ejection” be an appropriate name for a cat?

@jerry My mother had a himalayan that looked like it belonged on one of those cutesy greeting cards.

I called it “Fart Blossom”.

I'm not the best in describing stuff in media for alt-text and I should improve that

But, I DO add alt-text in every bit of media I post ❤️

It's important for people who use screen readers so it can describe the media

clonezone ,
@clonezone@mastodon.social avatar

@stux Alt-text is helpful for people that don't need screen readers in order to understand the intent of the poster.

clonezone ,
@clonezone@mastodon.social avatar

@stux So many posts say something along the lines of “this is bad”, but, until you read the alt text for the image, you don't know which of the many bad things present they're specifically talking about.
