I hardware reset my automatic pet feeder because it was complaining about no wifi-connection. It was actually just unable to the brand's home server because of the AWS US-East 1 thing.

Now I have two dead pet feeders until the issue is fixed. Should've left them to run using local configurations while the issue gets fixed.

edit: Aaand after so many hours, I can finally initialize the pet feeders. I wonder how many man hours would it take to reverse engineer the software for this thing to make it not internet connected...

Not much progress made, besides finishing those three mini missions and getting enough points to rank up for Rank Y.

As for the game so far, it’s pretty good. Sure, there is a lot of ragebait hating on the game, especially the lack of voice acting and those windows. We know that Game Freak is lazy and behind other JRPGs, but it actually performs well on the Switch 2 and does not run like a total disaster compared to Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.

Scarlet and Violet was just unplayable on the Switch, it ran and look not so great. Even on the Switch 2, while it ran better, some textures just look bad. Not a problem here, and it actually looks good.

Still, Game Freak’s laziness is still there. Ignoring the windows, going into shops and resturants are just a menu iinstead of actually going inside the building. I don’t know why Game Freak wouldn’t allow the player character to go into resturants and shops and see how they are. This is just plain laziness. This is the same with Scarlet and Violet, hardly any buildings you can go into.

The battle system is interesting though, it’s less turn based and more real time as you pick the moves in real time and the position of the Pokemon matters. It’s probably an evolution of the battle system of the first Legends Arceus.

The character customization is an improvement though. No dresses, but at least you kind of have skirts back in the form of skirts and shorts. I would like to see them look more like skirts, but at least it’s better than Scarlet and Violet. Scarlet and Violet character customization is just really bad, only uniforms and no skirts at all.

But despite all the haters and ragebaiters, Pokemon Legends ZA is fun, at least so far. A lot of tutorials, but it’s true with previous installments. I guess part of the hate is the price ($70 for the Switch 2 version and $30 for the DLC). I hope the DLC will add more Pokemon to the roster and possibly more places to explore, besides the story and extra mega evolutions.

Still find this game a lot more fun compared to Palworld, got bored of that game after playing hours of it and obviously not as good or original, especially in the designs. Probably won’t go back to playing it anytime soon.

I haven’t got the chance to play it much yet, but Atelier Resleriana spinoff game came out today. Apparently, it uses Unity, and well those games using that engine pretty runs at the highest settings on anything, even on a Radeon 780m iGPU.

The game only really uses 4 GB of vRAM and 20% of the power of a RTX 5090. Yep, a 5090 is basically overkill for any anime themed video game. Interestingly, the game does have FSR though, but I don’t know why you would need it if you have a decent GPU.

@yon It seems a lot less demanding than Yumia from the looks of it. Yumia seems more intensive, using like 60% of the GPU at 5K (have to use a mod to set it that high)

Does the Ryza games use Unity too? I wonder why it would stuggly on the GPU you have then.

I finally preordered Atelier Resleriana: The Red Alchemist & the White Guardian since it comes out later this month. Haven’t played the gacha game, although it’s only in Japan now.

Also didn’t finished Yumia yet, maybe someday. PC release as I don’t really want to get Switch versions since it won’t look and perform as good as the Switch 2 release. Such a shame since Ryza is getting a Switch 2 rerelease.

Surely, an RTX 5090 is overkill for this game, compared to Borderlands 4, which barely runs at 60 fps at 5K at the highest settings (forced to use DLSS Quality, but it still runs pretty bad in the mid 30s to mid 40 fps)

Was digging around after the new BanG Dream anime was announced for 2026. I didn't know that it's a music project owned by Bushiroad, the TCG company, designed to copy Love Live and Idolmaster.

So the newest iteration of BanG Dream are VTubers Mugendai Mewtype, and because the company's foundation is music, they Debut in Nov 2023, and had their first Live concert in person (not as VTubers) in Aug 2024, and lots of concerts since. A similar story exists for Idolmaster's VTuber unit PROJECT IM@S vα-liv

Which is interesting because VTubers and VSingers build their audience online and have a lot of difficulty demonstrating their ability to fill seats to their companies. And BanG Dream and Idolmaster can fill seats with the brand alone, but their VTubers in turn are quite unknown.

Again, AMD is basically having the Lucy pulling the football away from Charlie Brown moment again as NVidia’s monopoly grows even further.

AMD blew it with the 9000 series as the 9070 XT is nowhere near the MSRP and selling $100 more than what is susposed to, and $50 less than the RTX 5070 Ti, which is basically at MSRP. They are basically doing the same thing again, which is no wonder why people go with NVidia. The mindshare is hard to break, unless AMD priced their cards right, which they haven’t. Not only that, they given up completely on the high end, thus giving more market share to NVidia.

I went back to NVidia because there is a lot of stuff that doesn’t work on AMD… It’s obvious that AMD don’t care about competing with NVidia anymore.

(Intel at this point is our last hope for any competition, but even Intel is on shaky ground)

So apparently VTuber music is tracked as a category on the oricon charts, and well.. Japanese 'domestic sales' are quite high.

Oricon only tracks deliveries to Japanese addresses, and does some level of filtering of bulk buying by doing stuff like capping tracked purchases to 3. Obviously it's not fully de-duplicating if the top entry ROF-MAO (Nijisanji) sold 100k CDs within Japan alone.

It’s obvious that Pokemon Trading Card Scalping has been a thing now as I watched videos on it. I just don’t understand why people will buy up printed pieces of printed cardboard just to sell them at a higher price.

Now, McDonalds Japan have a Happy Meal promotion that have a pack of 5 Pokemon Trading Cards. Of course, I never thought that the scalping trend will happen in Japan, with people buying up 30 meals and throw them away after taking the card packs. Even fights broke out as a result.

I think scalping needs to be outlawed, it’s just exploitative and of course ruining the hobby as well.

@anianimalsmoe @yon It’s funny that you brought this up as this is also a cause for a lot of wasteful behavior. The infamous example is when AKB48 was doing handshake sessions or election tickets to see who becomes the center (they don’t do these anymore), the tickets are only in the singles they sell to incentivize idol otakus to buy as many they can so they can have as many of those tickets as they can, and just throw away the CDs.

Yes, there are instances where idol otaku threw away 600 CDs illegally since the second hand shop didn’t want them. This is probably worse than throwing 30 happy meals in the garbage as CDs and the cases themselves hurt the environment more.

End of an era, AOL is discontinuing dialup internet. Yes, I used it for 2 years (2001-2003) and it was painful, although dialup is slow, but it required using the AOL Desktop app just to get on, which of course uses quite a bit of resources.

As an ex-startup person myself... VShojo was doing the olde Silicon Valley bait and switch: Come in with millions of investor money and spend more than they earn until someone else buys them or become too big to fail.

Literally the same tactics as what happened to Uber vs traditional Taxis. Attract drivers (talents) with incentives, virtue signal to customers by saying they pay drivers (talents) more than other companies and provide more freedom. The only difference is that they only focused on talents with existing user bases, also ex-holos and ex-Nijis were easier to emotionally manipulate and had earned them sympathy points.

When startups run out of money, they focus on paying the bare minimum legally, and stiff their contractors (including talents) for months.

For those that missed the news, the artist of the light novel that became Guild Receptionist, Gaou, was exposed on a talkshow (at the end of June) for having inappropriate relations with a 14 year old.

His VTuber art daughter was caught in the crossfire for just being his biggest client. She obviously wasn't involved much with Gaou beyond being a business partner for commisioning art, but the repeated use of her image in the expose stream and news/discussions about it obviously took a toll on her.

She had a relaxed streaming schedule to begin with, but totally stopped streaming after that came to light, and recently returned, abandoning all projects that directly involve him that she wasn't contractually obligated for (e.g. the Round 1 collab had to go on), and using an image from a different artist instead of her VTuber model for the stream.

She tried to joke about it, calling it a "city blown overnight", and saying that she'd go back to "pre-debut VTuber, model pending".

    Guess we need to bring back webrings again if we are unable to get a hold of the owner.

    I can probably come up with something, the idea of the site is not that hard to create, at least the backend. I have no experience with front-end web development. That is probably the last resort, which will of course take some time to create from scratch, and probably better with the good possibility of making it open sourced. I’ll wait a few weeks before I decide to do that.

    I wonder if @anianimalsmoe want to help out with this idea.

    @yon @anianimalsmoe The idea of AniBlogTracker is that it shows all the newest posts from blogs that it knows. Basically, it's a more powerful version of a wearing, although it's possible to see a directory of blogs.

    It also allows a user to "subscribe" to blogs, or rather build their own feeds.

    Wrote some more Ansible playbooks to automate the asset compilation and even one to update Mastodon automatically. No more typing commands hopefully. Once the playbook is finalized, updating Mastodon will be effortless..

    @neatchee Still being done in a virtual machine on my homelab. Now, instead of inputting commands, it just automatically updates the source code, update dependencies, precompile, and then zip the packs folder. Since it runs on a Mini PC, it takes awhile.

    I should have it automatically upload it to the server as well.
