No single post in this thread will prepare you for the next post in this thread. I'm beginning to think that tools like OpenClaw are professional malpractice and should be outright banned from civil society.

There's a bit of commotion on Lobsters because an unpleasant-but-technically-correct user finally got banned, and I realized that an unpopular opinion of mine is that moderators are always right.

I don't care about the letter of the CoC. I don't care about transparency, even. Moderation is the fundamentally human and nuanced big-picture job that shapes a community.

We apologize for a period of extreme slowness today. The army of AI crawlers just leveled up and hit us very badly.

The good news: We're keeping up with the additional load of new users moving to Codeberg. Welcome aboard, we're happy to have you here. After adjusting the AI crawler protections, performance significantly improved again.

    Wow, rare Hacker News W:

This is the true problem with AI. It's with who owns it, and what they will inevitably use it for. Whether it can do cool stuff with code or equal a junior developer is irrelevant. What it can do is less important than what it will be used for.

The owning class will use it to reduce payroll costs, which from their perspective is a cost center and always will be. If you're not an owner, then you have no control over the direction or use of AI. You are doomed to have your life disrupted and changed by it, with no input whatsoever. To quote the article, your six shillings a day can become six shillings a week, and you are left to just deal with it however you can. You are "free" to go find some other six shilling a week job. If you can.

And if you think, "Oh, every technology is like this, it's always been this way", you are right. You have always been at the whims of the owning class, and barring a change towards economic democracy, where average people regain control over their lives, it likely always will be.

    Wasm question

I was given https://hachyderm.io/@unlambda/114582671790895240 as some example code for printing to stdout from inside wasmtime/WASI

It calls a function named "fd_write" taken from "wasi_snapshot_preview1"

"wasi_snapshot_preview1" does not Google well and one link https://github.com/WebAssembly/WASI/blob/main/legacy/preview1/docs.md seems to suggest this is deprecated. How were the functions in wasi_snapshot_preview1 chosen? Is there a wasi_snapshot_preview2 or whatever?

Hey, listen. is being spammed with LLM bots right now. They started like an hour ago. Each bot is opening up one issue in a random tracker every minute.

I have no idea what the spread is, but each individual bot has like seven pages full of issues now. PieFed and FEP are both starting to see issues piling up because of this.

    cadey ,
    @cadey@pony.social avatar

@aral @deadsuperhero Creator of the anime proof of work thing here, Codeberg doesn't protect all routes with it. In my experience Anubis has helped with forum spam issues, so it may be a case of them needing to increase the number of routes that are protected.

In rare instances, creating a symbolic link under Linux (ln -s) to a file that doesn't yet exist is said to create a "ghost link." This link remains dormant until a file with the target name is created, at which point the link mysteriously awakens and becomes functional. Have you experienced the “Ghost Link” phenomenon?

Hey @BrodieOnLinux ! Really awesome to see Anubis on the show. Kinda surreal really. Anyways I'm working on changing the proof of work to be way kinder to lesser CPUs. I'm looking at using the equi-x function based on what Tor uses.

I've also got a redesign in the works along with getting distribution packages working. I'll write more blogposts as they get finished.

Thanks for having Anubis on the show though! It's awesome to see my project take off, but the slope of the graph is terrifying lol.

Hi everyone, for several hours we are currently fighting with potentially malicious crawling. We are seeing distributed access on Codeberg that could have been crawling, however it seems to only use the most expensive routes. And each time we block an access pattern, a new one pops up immediately.

We are doing our best to keep the performance up.
