Important progress has been made regarding bringing MLS end-to-end encryption to the ActivityPub protocol, with developers already building implementations and providing feedback to a future version of the protocol spec.
that argument doesn't hold. you're letting perfect be the enemy of good-and if you truly believe that, then you wouldn't be recommending Matrix which has web clients, see https://app.element.io/
Any we client including Matrix webclient is incredibly vulnerable to the server just injecting JS
That doesn't preclude fediverse clients from enabling E2EE. A web-client isn't a requirement.
Like there is no point of E2E encryption in Twitter, Musk can read your messages if you open them on any device he can execute arbitrary code on.
Agreed, nobody should trust twitter, but I would trust most mastodon clients to send encrypted messages, if/when implemented correctly. Does it guarantee that messages will never be read? No, but it does an extra layer that wasn't there before.
For this reason, elected authoritarians who wish to consolidate control typically win not by flashy displays of might, but by convincing a critical mass of people that they’re just a normal politician — no threat to democracy at all. ...
the problem the guy above is trying to call out is that traditional social media (read: algorithms dictated by the ruling class) spread misinformation and control the narrative in ways we never thought possible. voting works, yes, but without addressing the root cause—misinformation—we will end up right back where we are.

people (not calling you out specifically) keep suggesting Librewolf like it isn't driving around a city in a tank. it gets the job done, sure, but most people will not tolerate its faults. Suggest something more in-between like Waterfox at least.
Suggesting Librewolf is like asking people to browse the web via Tor. it works, sure, but the inconvenience will make most people give up on gecko-based browsers and give into Google/chrome via Brave or the million other chrome-in-sheep's-wool browsers.
DRM is one. On Windows it doesn't auto-update by default (maybe that's changed now?). I recall you have to whitelist some sites to work properly. It's just not something I can set up for my parents and expect most/all websites to work without intervention.
If you want to get automatic updates, you can install the Obtanium app, add the app via the link above, and it will notify you whenever there's updates and install them.
You can't, but you could comment or "like" loops.videos if they come across your feed. I'm on mastodon and have seen a few come through. No need to even have an account on loops, the beauty of the fediverse.
Not bullshit. I don't use it other than at work and its constantly doing bullshit like this. Just because you're not seeing it doesn't mean it doesn't happen to others.
Did I say I can reproduce it reliably or that it happens every single time? It's obviously an intermittent issue or everyone would be able to reproduce it immediately. I don't have Windows at home so I can't even try. But good try, I guess? Don't believe me, I genuinely do not give a shit.
giiirl i don't return to work until the end of january. you're but a gnat in the wind. blocking you just cuz i don't care to see notifications from you. have the day you deserve
In short: LibreWolf is for those who want a "locked-down" fortress out of the box, while Waterfox is for those who want a privacy-conscious browser that still feels like a normal, convenient daily driver.
Choose LibreWolf if: You want the highest level of privacy without having to manually edit config files, and you don’t mind occasionally "fixing" a broken website or re-logging into accounts.
Choose Waterfox if: You want a privacy-respecting browser that supports Firefox Sync, has an Android counterpart, and handles streaming sites/logins without any extra friction (it supports WideWine out of the box, which lets you stream DRM protected content (netflix, hulu, disney, etc).

I should add, Debian is more "bare bones" than more gaming focused distros. e.g. flatpak isn't installed by default on Debian, so you have to take that step before you can install steam via the gnome store or command line. It's not difficult, but it is an additional step.
Happened to me with a group of people when offroading out in the middle of nowhere and no data/wireless. Almost impossible to share info without going back to civilization. Doesn't happen often, but its a nice feature to have.
Meredith mentioned in a reply to her posts that they do leverage multi-cloud and were able to fall back onto GCP (Google Cloud Platform), which enabled Signal to recover quicker than just waiting on AWS. I'd link to source but on phone, it's somewhere in this thread: https://mastodon.world/@Mer__edith/115445701583902092
If sending a message is the only requirement, email fits the bill and has worked for half a century. If we're being real, the reason Signal "can't do what Telegram does" is because Telegram doesn't even attempt to do what Signal does. Signal is tackling a much bigger problem.
the best time was yesterday. the next best time is today. securing systems after they're broken, when data could actively be collected prior to the breakthrough, is not the way to approach security.

for all the hate the guy gets, I do appreciate that he's at least taking a science-based approach and publishes what works/doesn't. The core building blocks he continually pushes people to follow are the basics we already know: good sleep, food and exercise.
Outside of the common sense he's tried various protocols and only continues them if the biomarkers they're tracking show some kind of improvement. He's spending his millions to test things and publish data for us to use, I don't see any harm in that. He's even published basic meals (Super Veggie) that anyone can make to ensure they're eating healthy and getting the most bang for their buck (nutrient to caloric content ratio).
It actually is! I tried it for a while and noticed its impact on reducing my hunger, reduced swelling (I could tell because the rings on my fingers were no longer "tight"), and its easy to make so there's no excuse not to eat healthy.
its interesting to me that this is only really an issue on proprietary OS's (mac/windows) as i've never had an issue with any image or video formats when using linux. i use all three but linux is my primary OS. mac/windows mostly stay at work.
yeah macOS supports webp now (since ~2020), but it lacked support for a decade, causing frustration for its users and anyone trying to support macOS/Safari.
That's true, but its not always about the server, people tend to download images/memes/etc with the intent to edit/share. If you were on macos and happened to download a webp image in the 10 years that Apple didn't support them, you were in for some googling and/or frustration.
