I always wince a little when I see graphs and charts on the homepage of some news outlet, but this one was really well done and conveyed a lot of interesting and timely information in very few words.

Steam Deck update: I found an old SteamDeck running OS 3.6 and installed Death by Scrolling. It ran fine and was butter smooth. I then updated the OS to 3.7 and now it's choppy and stutters. The plot thickens.

Huh. Nice.
I haven't played it yet because I still wanna play through BG1&2 first. But hearing little things like this make me wanna get on that so I can join in on BG3... Well after everyone else is over it :P

I don't think that "give beginners LLMs to get them started so they can actually learn to do it later" checks out.

great essay

very strong argument that is completely agnostic to whether LLMs are actually capable of what they advertise, very difficult to hand-wave this sort of rhetoric

take heart fair pengin

100% promise people will not stop writing guides, there was an entire period in the 90s where only Jeff Rovin got paid to write guides and tons of people still wrote better guides anyway

it's going to come down to outlets like the one you run to help people discover where they actually get published, though

the last time slave empires imploded while doing genocides, it was keeping records of it that mattered and kept it from happening again

"how is this news?"

  • Instant Mute.

Seriously. Some of your attitudes are so so tiring to read.

Let me take you to school for a moment:

  • Did something happen? Might some people be interested to know about it?
  • Congratulations. That's news.

Is it just me, or has Microsoft gone completely crazy? They are implementing spyware that takes screenshots every second and forcing AI integration. Why would anyone willingly purchase this? Anyone with experience in computer or information security knows that it is a bad idea, even if it is locally done. Just don't do it. Yet, here we are, and they are doubling down on this idea. https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2024/05/microsofts-new-recall-feature-will-record-everything-you-do-on-your-pc/
