shit i know a lot of music. met a psytrance dj who sent me some of their favorite tracks and i commented it with "sounds chill" and they said "CHILL?!" and then i realized after 25 years of psytrance i'm pretty jaded.

so i infodumped 20 years worth of psytrance music history on them, with dozens of track and album links and even linked ishkur's guide to music and now they're not replying anymore %)

i just don't know how to spoonfeed :-( either i don't talk about it at all or way too much

think i'm going to try procedural music in datalog today. no better way to figure out what i need. soufflé is very low on functional stuff so i might have to write bindings. also, support for writing wavefiles.

i'm in the city again. heard people steal unattended backpacks now, so here's a simple trick i've been using for a while which i call "the human kensington lock": put your backpack on the ground next to where you are sitting, and one foot through the backpack strap so it can not be pulled away without you lifting your foot.

AI companies put "upgrade to pro" buttons everywhere but not also offering a "fuck you" button is a lost opportunity imo

see i like to toy with their free offerings, doubly so because i know it hurts their ROI, but i feel that just quietly going "fuck you" in my head when they tell me my freeloading time is up hampers my desire to express myself freely.

@lritter I sometimes question how someone responsible for product branding in Microsoft manages to sleep well after successfully pitching that calling three products not related to each other in any way, in very similar names is a great idea. Even in official docs on their website, in the beginning of each page, there are three checkboxes indicating if this page is relevant to Visual Studio, Visual Studio Code or Visual Studio for Mac, and not a single damned page has even two of them highlighted simultaneously.

ac shadows may have the densest foliage and furthest draw distance i have ever seen. it's a similar renderer as star wars outlaws, and with diffuse+specular RT on high, i still get 30fps on a 3060. the seasons system is impressive. the weather features strong winds and thunderstorms. i just want to walk the narrow paths of feudal japan and look at mossy stones and temple gardens. they changed horse and boat controls btw, to the same way you move your character. less automatic, more precise.

@lritter To me, environment art is one of the most strongest parts in recent ACs. In Odyssey, I enjoyed just putting my horse to auto-navigation mode to some distant quest point and then looking at surroundings. And it was on previous generation of consoles already.

My default answer for people wanting to start in 2D with an off-the-shelf that run "everywhere" is GameMaker 2.

But there's also Construct 3, RPG Maker, Renpy, Godot (2D/3D), Mono/XNA. It's not only "Unity or Unreal".
