Xariphon ,

I'm a forgettable nobody, so, Michael Cera.

Xariphon ,

Today on "Pillow or Bear Trap"...

Xariphon ,

If rich people weren't hoarding functionally all of the world's wealth, we wouldn't need their goddamn charity. They don't deserve praise for pissing into fires they started.

I used to do Renaissance Faires.

"Wild Mountain Thyme" was the song the entire cast sang together at the end of each day, my first year.

It hits me like a truck every time.

    Xariphon ,

Sounds like how the people of Palestine feel all the time.

    Xariphon ,

Magnus did nothing wrong and Russ has fleas.

    Xariphon ,

The Horus Heresy. When you see what the Emperor's vision actually was, and really get to compare it to the galaxy they got, it's just... so much worse. And the galaxy is pretty goddamn bad to begin with. But you know there's a special place at the very bottom of hell for Erebus.

    Xariphon ,

    All 13 of Erebus's Black Crusades aren't better. >..>

    Xariphon ,

That's a trans thing? I thought it was just anxiety.

    Xariphon ,

Mine is an old Black Crusade character name. The original Xariphon was a scholar-warrior.

    Xariphon ,

I'm shocked he got any consequences at all. His magic costume must've not been enough to grant immunity for once.

    Xariphon ,

I want to see games with AI-powered NPCs making responsive, possibly unique dialog. Probably text-only at first, but maybe with AI voice-acting later on.

    Xariphon ,

Right? I'm sitting here like "this has to be satire... right? But it's just absurd enough not to be..."

    Xariphon ,

Yeah, that's the real thing: "the economy" is how well the country is working for rich people and corporations. Look at average wages, actual buying power, etc. What's in the hands of the worker. That's the actual measure of how well a country is doing. Grotesque inequality is a condemnation, regardless of what the stock market is doing.

    Xariphon ,

Mine is the name of a character I used to play tabletop.

He was a Chaos Space Marine.

    I think I'll be okay.

    Xariphon ,

On hotdogs. Or pretzels. Or sausages.

    Xariphon ,

If you haven't played StS: Downfall yet you should.

    Xariphon ,

Between Neo from RWBY and Toga from MHA, I'm starting to think I have a type...

    Xariphon ,

I used to hate Jenny but I have more sympathy for her now. She's a scared, broken person too.

    Xariphon ,

We ordered in from our favorite Indian joint. They're a little expensive so it's kind of our go-to "special occasions" treat.

    Xariphon ,

You'd be shocked at what military instruction books you can find online.

    Xariphon ,

    Hulk Repellent.

More seriously: prep time, massive amounts of sedatives, or a phone call to Superman to get him to deal with it instead.

See also, any time Batman has had to deal with similar DC villains: Doomsday, Darkseid, Bane, etc.

    Xariphon ,

I've always thought the name Buchanan sounded... Not cool per se but... Atmospheric? Like it could only belong to one of those old-money families up to their eyeballs in secret societies and mystery.

    Xariphon ,

I barely remember that show. Was that his character's name?

How does employing a rapist not constitute an unsafe work environment for female employees?

So I just discovered that I have been working next to the waste of oxygen that raped my best friend several years ago. I work in a manufacturing environment and I know that you can’t fire someone just for being a sex offender unless it directly interferes with work duties (in the US). But despite it being a primarily male ...

    Xariphon ,

In an at-will state, which I think is most or all of them.

Right-to-work is different; it means you can't be required to join a union in order to take a job.

    Xariphon ,

I don't really care so long as it doesn't hurt.

    Xariphon ,

I remember reading about a military guy, Staff Sergeant Max Fightmaster. I have no idea what he actually does (or did; guy's probably retired by now) but if he hasn't at least spent some time teaching martial arts he's doing it wrong.

Edit: apparently he's a computer technician and that's even better somehow.

Who, in your opinion, is the most annoying character in any game?

Personally, it’s Faith from Farcry 5 for me. Uninteresting dialog that can be summed up to “I was bullied once” and that’s it. Literally every other character is so much more interesting. Jacob gives you a sequence where you run through a gulag which he then uses against you, John tries to kill you and is openly hateful ...

    Xariphon ,

There's just so many characters whose entire presence makes me go "please shut the fuck up" that it's hard to pick just one. Like yeah pretty much anybody would sell Preston Garvey to Satan for half a donut, but there are just so many other annoying characters...

    Xariphon ,

You are more than what the worst people in your life see you as.

Everybody else has said the obvious about therapy and support, so, have a little more sympathy instead of more of the same advice. I know what it feels like to never feel good enough. It sucks like there aren't even words for, and I'm sorry you're going through that.

Have a hug from an Internet friend, and remember it's not your fault. You did everything right, and meanwhile the world went and got worse.

Work doesn't define you, and coworkers don't have to be friends. Work is what you do to fund your real life. Coworkers are people you tolerate as briefly as possible and forget about as soon as you can. If you're not getting paid, they can see themselves out of your mind entirely.

What is the best way for a society to address adolescent autonomous agency, responsibility, and consent?

I recall many times growing up when I felt like my inalienable fundamental human rights were violated in unjust autocratic ways, mostly at school. There was also the time of being a year older than my partner but the potential of ridiculous arbitrary laws having major consequences. ...

    Xariphon ,

If you haven't already, you should read John Caldwell Holt. "Escape From Childhood," especially, addresses exactly what you're talking about here.

Honestly it was like a spiritual awakening for me when I read it, just realizing I wasn't the only one seeing the injustice.

    Xariphon ,

I'm pretty sure the day Michael Jackson died traffic was enough to overwhelm Google.

    Xariphon ,

I'm interested but I'm not sure I have the brain cells for this right now.

    Xariphon ,

Pharma Bro. Martin something? Even if I didn't know he was a dogshit human being, he has a punchable face.

    Xariphon ,

    Nah.

I legit loved him in Barbie. Not even kidding. Like, the guy has made an entire career out of playing the forgettable Everyman, and he just lampshaded the fuck out of it. Low key hilarious.

    Xariphon ,

Look at what's going on with prison labor. It's already happening.

    Xariphon ,

Too much depression and anxiety to work, not enough to get approved for disability. And bureaucracy is an anxiety trigger. Fun, innit?

    Xariphon ,

    Kangaroos don't but platypus do.

    Xariphon ,

I think it comes down to the criminal's motivation.

Some people are in a desperate circumstance. They steal or deal or whatever because society affords them no real opportunities. You can't really blame those people.

Others think it's okay to short people on their paychecks, charge outright extortion for rent, or otherwise make the lives of others significantly worse for no other reason than their own sociopathic greed. Those people should absolutely be shown to the guillotine.

    Xariphon ,

I'm just here for the Konohana Kitan wallpaper.

    Xariphon ,

That episode hits so hard if you think of the idea that Picard sacrificed basically everything for his career. He never married, never had a family or settled down on some backwater planet.

And then for a lifetime - in 27 minutes - he did. He got to have the life he never got to have.

It just. My soul hurts for him. I still don't know if it's sad or beautiful or both but that episode tears my heart out every time.

    Xariphon ,

I think Bjorn the Fell-Handed might still be more coherent though.

    Xariphon ,

Something I wrote has been read on every continent.

    Xariphon ,

I can't link without doxing myself, but it was a civil rights political essay at a time when I was far more involved in activism than I am now.

    Xariphon ,

One of my regular readers was doing some kind of geology thing there for her college studies and shared it with her team.

    Xariphon ,

    Yes.

    Xariphon ,

    Cowboy Bebop, obviously

The first season intro of Dr. Stone.

Drifters! Gospel of the Throttle goes so hard.

    Xariphon ,

Fun fact: there is a book called that, that is a collection of these.

    Xariphon ,

There's gotta be, like a separate... Thing... For when the lyrics you misheard make more sense than what the lyrics actually are.
