Canada’s Liberals on course for political resurrection amid trade war, polls show ( www.theguardian.com )

In January, Canadian pollsters and political pundits struggled to find fresh ways to describe the bleak prospects of Justin Trudeau’s Liberal party, musing whether it would be a wipeout of existential proportions, or merely a catastrophic blowout. ...

RedditWanderer ,

We don't want no Trump loving conservatives taking power. Poivrière is pretending he's against Trump now but nobody is buying that. He would sell canada in a heartbeat

Bro why u gotta bring up Nicole! /s

RedditWanderer ,

Invite Trump but leave him out of most things. Like do it on purpose, all the world leaders should just go chill and have a coffee somwhere secret, but he has another room with a giant chair and 1000 cameras where he can "adresss the world". Live feed it straight to the coffee room.

Iirc a minimum tax would mean "it doesn't matter what other loopholes and tax breaks you found this year, you have to pay at least this much because you're this rich". Revenue/profit is complicated, we need to tax mega-wealth like we tax houses.

Tax the rich like normal people with more brackets, tax the ultra rich and corporations with minimums for value and maximums for personal wealth after which the rest is forfeited/of no use.

Just like they used to tell the people in the soviet Union. They all knew it wasn't true but they thought it wasn't true in america either, and everyone was pretending to be happy.
Someone coined the term: hypernormalization. Trump will gaslight everyone into thinking everything is perfect. Just like when that lady proudly claimed "it is a well know fact it's the gulf of america".

RedditWanderer ,

Doesn't really matter. The important bit is he has no idea either. (It's likely the former and he's blaming the weirdos trying to get in)

RedditWanderer ,

Only if you read various news sources. If you focus on a handful of tabloids, everything is going great and theyve saved the country already

I wouldn't know i don't watch Fox news.

Remember how they wanted to regulate and license AI?

Yeah that might sound terrible for them, but it's actually great, it restricts who has the certifications and licenses to do it. He talks about "increasing investment" as fast as possible, which just means selling it all off to megacorps.

Edit: anyone?

RedditWanderer ,

To be pedantic, that isn't even right or wrong posture at a computer. The cat one isn't wrong either.

What they tell you at the big big studios where they have ergonomist and fancy massages, is to change your posture often. Any one posture for a long time is bad, even straight (albeit one that causes the less stress in a given moment).

Yeah ideally once an hour you get up and bring something far away into focus for a bit, stretch your eyes the other way. Stretching whatever else whenever you can etc..

I changed my typing habits too.

There are only two kinds of haircuts: the ones people complain about and the ones nobody has.

Ooo nice

RedditWanderer ,

How do you figure that?

They run ads and subscriptions to afford the API, which is paid to spez.

RedditWanderer ,

Reminder: nobody gives a shit about reddit

RedditWanderer ,

This is a community about reddit discussion/news. Most posts are about how they censor, monetize and essentially wage war with their communities . I don't need "reminders" to go back.

They circumvent reddit ads by paying reddit directly for the API (using their own ads). It still funds reddit.

RedditWanderer ,

It's okay you'll never get it. Go back to feeding money to spez now

RedditWanderer ,

Talk about the post instead of attacking people directly. I can have whatever in my name and say "nobody cares you can still access reddit", it doesn't matter how you interpret my username. Reddit was once something else.

RedditWanderer ,

The c/reddit community is not for people who love reddit. Having reddit in your name doesn't mean you like or support reddit. There's no irony, youre just misunderstanding my username, the sub and just about everything else. Stop trying to make fun of people's usernames.

What I should have said was "reminder: nobody give a shit about going back to reddit" for the slow one's in the back looking to take things personally.

Why is Jury Nullification a Thing, But You Can’t Talk About It in Court?

I’ve been reading a lot about jury nullification, and I get that jurors have the power to acquit someone even if the law technically says they’re guilty. But what I don’t get is—why is this something that exists, yet courts don’t allow it to be talked about during a trial? ...

This is a much better answer than the current top post.

Because the US conveniently aren't part of the treaty.

The U.S. signed the Rome Statute in 2000 under President Bill Clinton but did not ratify it.

In 2002, President George W. Bush's administration formally "unsigned" the treaty and passed the American Servicemembers' Protection Act (ASPA), which restricts U.S. cooperation with the ICC and even authorizes measures to prevent the prosecution of U.S. personnel.

The post is indeed not a great circle.

Redraw the path nearest to the red line but avoid the areas marked in green and you have your answer. Arizona is at a pretty high elevation and the rockies stretch from new mexico through colorado onwards, so they probably fly around the other way under the Rockies.

Edit: i think his question is still disingenuous

RedditWanderer ,

He's not asking because he understands great circles or is suddenly curious about planes. He's "just asking questions", specifically on a public forum to drum up disinformation and anti-science rhetoric. He's essentially giving a shout-out to his conservative skeptic gang that if powerful rich people question science and common knowledge, they should keep doing it too

Your tongue is also super tactile. We spend most of our toddler years discovering this.

You can look at anything around you, anything, and your brain knows exactly what it would be like to lick it, even if you've never done it before. Taste, texture, residue etc.. it's quite freaky

Oh and my thighs are really good at imagining my phone just buzzed.

I feel he was well intended and just naive. When he finally made it, he quickly realized he wouldn't stay PM for long if he did, not only because the people in power wouldn't let him if he was to push another voting system, but that his party probably wouldn't win another election ever. (Ending the conservative/liberal back and forth forever).

I think he could have done it and started a strong/young party, fully embrace the change albeit taking a chance people wouldn't vote for him. But he's a traditional political boy.

After the french revolution, the people who took over did the same exact thing as before, and abused their power. When Lenin finally took over and gave Russians free elections,, they didnt vote for him. He said fuck them and took power anyway. It do be like that for these types.

We are more resourceful than ever so no, I dont think it will accelerate a decline of any given nation. It does highly increase our chances of annihilating ourselves in one go, but that's another conversation.

An example is when the Suez canal got clogged up during COVID. That kind of halt in the global logjstics is the kinda thing that would have absolutely brought down an empire, but we managed.
