The real reason Trump posted he wanted to send a hospital ship to Greenland, most likely is the fact that Danish Joint Arctic Command just evacuated a US Navy Sailor from a US submarine near Greenland, because the sailor was in need of acute medical attention.

Trump might have been asked to thank Denmark for this important help, but instead Trump came up with this weird distraction to hand to Fox News that the US is the one helping Denmark with a hospital ship, as if we did not have hospitals.

Danish Seahawk Helicopter which was dispatched from the Danish Navy Ship Vædderen.

ALT
PeterLG ,
@PeterLG@theblower.au avatar

@randahl

Given both official US hospital ships are laid up for maintenance until July at the earliest, Trump lied when he said it was "on the way".

Shocking, I know.

The Administration then indicated that a third ship was being sent — from the other side of the USA and NOT an official hospital ship.

The amount of gymnastics the sycophants have to do to support Trump's brain farts should make them eligible for the Olympics.

Also… Can we agree that at the bare minimum, presidents should know the difference between a boat and a ship?

A "hospital boat" does not carry "life ships", but a hospital ship might carry life boats.

There are also many, many questions regarding why Landry is supposed to be going on the "boat" (as indicated later by Trump) when he has no naval or medical knowledge.

Had a lot of fun with my stats students today. I gave them two data sets. One from a random number generator, the other was one I made up that was not random, but designed to look random. They were able to figure out which one was fake.

Then we had ChatGPT make the same kind of data set (random numbers 1-6 set of 100) and it had the same problems as my fake set but in a different way.

We talked about the study about AI generated passwords.

  • Queries, which were smart folders before either Mac or Windows had them

  • Replicants, which were app-provided desktop widgets (in 1998!)

  • Extended file attributes: user-specified metadata you could attach to a file, similar to macOS Finder tags

    Good piece by Waleed Aly, arguing against attempts to restrict protests. I'm with him; they've caused me inconvenience too, but in a democracy you can't let that be a reason to restrict free speech.

    "What we don’t need is the demonisation of protest as such. Or to form our response around which protesters we do and do not like. Or some belief that protest is only legitimate where it is neither disruptive nor inconvenient. Such is the price of democracy. It’s not cheap or efficient. But it’s a price we long ago committed to paying."
