When a spam or scam wave is sufficiently big everyone hears about it. People sometimes question if the decentralised moderation system is working well enough.

From the perspective of a mod - there are many mini waves of spam, scam & bot activity happening on the fedi, it's just that the decentralised moderation system finds & deals with it, & fast too!

This morning I've been able to see bot activity but have not had to do anything except watch as it is dispatched before I can act.

Now that is decentralised moderation functioning as its best. Kudos to the moderation teams dealing with stuff today & everyday :)

Looks like the "Verify your fedi account" scam is gaining pace, & evolving to look more real.

Your server admin will not ask you to click a link to verify your account. And no other admin from any other server will either, even if they do look like they could be part of the main Mastodon team. It's a scam.

Please report any post or DM that urges you to click any link to verify your account.

If you've any doubts about your account, now or on any other day, contact your server admin or mod team.

Yesterday a friend asked me if he should buy an expensive motorbike that he really, really wants, but feels guilty about.

I told him, if your spouse is fine with it, your bank account is good for it & you really want it, go for it!

He was shocked, but I said he works damn hard, pays for everything he needs to & beyond, & life is too short to regret never buying that motorbike.

Maybe it isn't an expensive motorbike, but there's probably something you really want to do, experience or have, & you've told yourself you can't, it won't work, you don't deserve it. If having/doing it makes you happy, & there's no good reason why not, do it!
