season, so far:

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently reported that there have been over seven million cases of the flu this season, resulting in an estimated 81,000 hospitalizations and 3,100 deaths.

If only there was a vaccine available to prevent this.

@vkc It just means there are idiots in the world. It's just trolling.

I am shocked by how fast credit card issuers in Denmark block credit cards based on a hunch.

I have now twice had a card blocked, because their AI system saw a "suspicious usage pattern". Both times it was just me using my card normally.

It is deeply problematic, because you get no warning. You are just standing in the middle of nowhere in a foreign country, and suddenly you cannot pay the cab to the airport, because the AI God has spoken.

Is it like this in your countries as well?

Jerry ,
@Jerry@hear-me.social avatar

@randahl Yes, in the U.S. as well. Two weeks ago, I ordered take out from a restaurant that I ordered from a number of times before. Nothing unusual. The charge was blocked as suspicious. This is not uncommon, actually, and it's frustrating.

Never ever ever never ever use a free (except Proton VPN, but it will be slower if you don't pay) or a VPN from some unknown company. Pay some money!!, or you WILL get scammed and robbed.

"FreeVPN.One, a Chrome extension with over 100,000 installs and a verified badge on the Chrome Web Store, is exposed by researchers for taking screenshots of users’ screens and exfiltrating them to remote servers.

... it has been capturing full-page screenshots ... logging sensitive visual data like personal messages, financial dashboards, and private photos, and uploading it to aitd[.]one, a domain registered by the extension’s developer."

I really like the idea of this community: https://feddit.online/c/[email protected] . I wish it were more active.

Most on the Fediverse can follow it at, and post to it at: dadforaminute@lemmy.world icon Dad for a Minute

Note. Those on my Friendica instance can't access lemmy.world because the 240K requests per day coming in from Lemmy instances overwhelmed the server and the database, and I had to block Lemmy. Friendica just can't handle it.

With lemm.ee, I believe the 2nd largest instance, shutting down in a few weeks, some of their more active users have moved to my server (feddit.online). Tonight I need to double the memory on the app server. And the DB server that was idling at 23% CPU until this morning is now 100% since late morning. I need to maybe scale it up as well.

I know piefed.social scaled up yesterday, and they've been much harder hit than I have. I wonder how other and servers are being impacted by this. Anyone know?

Sad to see another instance disappear, this time a larger server with over 5.5K monthly active users. Bye Lemm.ee, and thanks for being pioneers!

Anyone who has an account on lemm.ee, you have less than a month to move or close it. Remember too, there are two other alternatives to Lemmy that you might consider. (https://join.piefed.social/try/) and
