I did not realize Australian culture and Danish culture was so different. This article describes a decades long swim wear war in Australia with all kinds of initiatives to make Australians hide their bodies with more clothes in the summer.

Meanwhile in Denmark we can literally lay stark naked on the beach and no one even raises an eyebrow.

@randahl Do you take public transit dressed for the beach?

CStamp ,
@CStamp@mastodon.social avatar

@randahl Well, that’s the thing. A lot of bare skin on public seats is unhygienic and the oil would make harder to clean, attracting more dirt.

@randahl I think shower rooms have curtains. Don’t like chlorinated water myself or open change rooms.

This would be funny if not do serious. Dr Oz had a true crimes show, one that featured Epstein in 2019. In it he talked about frustration around finding those who had enabled Epstein. In the Epstein files, there is an email of Oz inviting Epstein to dinner a few years earlier. The fact he can talk about this as if he didn’t know him is just another look at what shameless liars they are.

While the American male skater is getting attention for performing the 1st legal backflip landing on one skate, let's acknowledge the 1st person to have done this: a Black French girl, Surya Bonaly. She, however, lost points for doing it.

"Regarding the criticism she received during her career, Bonaly said she was “born too early,” ...

“I broke ice for other skaters,”...“Now everything is different. People welcome anyone as long as they are good & that is what life is about.”

The three most expensive Netflix films are Electric State ($320m), Red Notice and The Gray Man ($200m each). If you're looking at top 5, you've got The Irishman ($160m) and 6 Underground ($150m). I love film. I love art. But if you removed those 5 films from the public consciousness would anything be any different? Would they even be missed? Over a billion dollars on films. Three quarters of a billion quid in real money. 750 times the amount I need to rescue my life and thrive. And for what. Does Michael Bay need that million? The Russo Brothers? Ryan Reynolds? In a 2016 Rolling Stone interview, Bay said that his net worth was around $500 million. He owned a $50 million Gulfstream G550 jet, as well as a Bentley, a Range Rover, an Escalade, a Ferrari, a Lamborghini, and two Camaros from the Transformers franchise. If anyone knows Michael, can they please let him know that I don't bear him any ill will, but I would be really ever so grateful if he would gift me a million pounds ($1,364,900). I would super appreciate it and would really genuinely go out of my way to let everyone know how terrific he is and to encourage them to watch his films even whatever the shit the Transformer franchise is supposed to be. I'll even offer to appear in any upcoming projects free of charge. Totally waive the upfront fee (as long as I get 5% on the backend and any distribution, and I will need my own trailer, and staff - a personal trainer, chef, acting coach, dialect coach, masseuse and hype-person). Hooray for Michael Bay who did NOT direct Heat as I thought - that was actually Michael Mann, Bay instead did Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, but for a cool one million I will happily say that is a better movie than Heat. Booo, Robert De Niro and Al Pacino and ensemble cast. Hooray for whoever was in TMNT the movie.

@TheBreadmonkey That dress looks practical compared to that worn by Teyana Taylor, who had to prove she had boobs AND abs and was prepared to walk like a penguin with tiny feet to pull it off. 😀

@TheBreadmonkey Yikes. I was just looking for that first dress in the list, didn't look past that. Well, I guess she didn't have to worry about anything falling out since they were already, well, hanging out. Though, yikes if that dress got caught by anything.

Is it okay to beg for money on Mastodon?

Every week I see accounts asking for money, often tagging me or others directly.

I support recognized aid organisations, but these direct requests make me concerned, because as a Mastodon user I have no way of verifying if the requests are legitimate, or some nefarious person is pretending to be a person in need.

So my question is, should Mastodon servers have a policy about begging, and if so, what should the policy be?

CStamp ,
@CStamp@mastodon.social avatar

@randahl I think it would be too much work for the hosts of the instances to verify. I think folk can ask, and it's up to responders to verify. It would get complicated otherwise, as people also market their businesses. It's easy to mute and block if annoyed.

@verge "Beginning in March, all accounts will have a ‘teen-appropriate experience by default.’"

Who determines what a "teen experience" is, and this is what folk have been saying when protesting this ridiculous age verification thing: it affects everybody and is a privacy issue for everyone, which is a bigger deal than the pretended "what about the children?" They will now be collecting data on children as they grow up.

LOL. So finally watching Starfleet Academy. First, I love that Holly Hunter has a forehead that moves. I have a hard time watching the uncanny valley fashion.

Secondly, I see why the rightwing brains are exploding. A woman commander with a woman second. The bridge has a Black & Asian man, lots of women, lots of aliens, a token White man?

And, look, more women! 😀

Holly Hunter sitting with legs up on the command chair—can so relate. Love her individuality shining through.

San Francisco has changed a bit since I saw it last. What a lot of work! :)

Overall, I liked the first episode, even with the odd cadet doing all the work during the crisis part.

A reminder to remind your less informed friends and family that Israel is not the Jewish religion.

So tired of seeing vandalism of synagogues here because Israel, the country, that doesn’t represent the Jewish religion, is committing atrocities.

Jewish people are also appalled. Find other ways to speak against Israel.

This was a test shot, to make sure my settings were working for snow. As I walked past the group of boys we see, I was hearing them discuss who was going to hold the camera.

"Why don't we just prop it up on the bench, so none of us has to hold it?"

I continue onwards, then hear music, so turn and look and the Indian boys were doing Indian dancing. :)

I really think immigrants appreciate this weather more than most locals. :)

I think a very real concern is that Spanky et al will be using all this starting wars around the world to do what Netanyahu did with Gaza. He was facing being ousted, so put the country in a state of war to suspend elections and consequences. :(

A lesser known Mastodon pro tip:

Want to mute a conversation, but the mute conversation button isn't appearing on the post?

The only way you can mute a conversation is on a post you have made in the conversation.

But the secret part - Say you want to mute it without actually participating in the conversation:

Reply to a post, set the visibility to "Private Mention", remove everyone's username from the post. Post it.

Then you can click "mute conversation" on THAT post, and it silently mutes you from the conversation.

@georgetakei With regards to work productivity, if a job requires a phone or a computer, then the damn company can provide those to their staff. This whole thing in which employees are now expected to pay for and maintain equipment at their own expense is ridiculous.

As is the whole concept that everyone must update everything immediately, regardless of their needs.

Especially when these "poor, suffering" companies hold the wealth of nations, continue to expect growth instead of profit.
