never criticise works produced by this one¹; default to praise²

it has been in burnout this entire year and is trying to find motivation
following this will help with that
it thanks the reader in advance :neobot:

¹ unless explicitly stated otherwise
² general non-specific statements of praise is OK, but higher {detail, specificity} is more effective

this is now a thread!! any remarks regarding its infra will be a reply here from now on

about time it posted its completely insane infrastructure that really should not work but no one has stopped it yet

so in its garage is a Dell PowerEdge R730:

  • CPU :: 2x E5-2697A
  • RAM :: 4x 32GB @ 2400 MHz
  • Storage :: RAID1 [1x 300GB, 1x 600GB (300GB usable)], RAID6 [14x 1200GB (14400GB usable)]

(RAID1 oddity is because one of the 300GB drives died and for some reason 600GB drives were cheaper. also this is the one and only drive that has died on it, a Seagate)*

*this is a lie! the two 300GB drives were HP drives, and one of the 1200GB drives was a HP too. these are all rebranded Seagates. the one 1200GB drive was Dead on Arrival. interpret that as one will about Seagate (all but the one 300GB drive is now HGST)

runs Proxmox Virtual Environment, which runs some OPNsense VMs, HTTP(S) reverse proxy and LXCs, tailscale exit node, other VMs for networking testing, etc... *and of course all customer VMs/CTs, mail and storage stuff, etcetc...

*stats as of initial time of posting

  • Uptime :: 13d7h
  • RAID6 (VM/LXC) storage usage :: 238 GiB
  • Outbound traffic 2025-01-01 - 2025-01-30 :: 13.86 TiB

it wonders if the reader would appreciate it cleaning this up and actually making it look nice or whether its infra should forever remain in a state of "what the fuck is happening in this image and how is any of this still alive"

every week or so it looks back in awe at the fact that any of this is still running reliably* lol

*depends on if the nearby substation wants to cause a blackout on specifically our street this month

quick guide on reporting spam emails (as in, actually bringing down hell on them instead of having no effect):

  • download email
  • open .eml in text editor
  • search "X-Report-Abuse" or any other mention of "Abuse"
  • check for any email address mentioned in that Abuse header
  • send an email to that address with the .eml file attached

done
SMTP relays' abuse teams usually take this incredibly seriously and are pretty quick to act given sender reputation is an absolute pain
