Märzwinter oder Märzfrühling? Ob der Winter letztlich zu warm oder doch noch normal ausfallen wird, hängt noch maßgeblich vom Februar und der Entwicklung innerhalb des Polarwirbels ab. Denn eine plötzliche Stratosphärenerwärmung kann die Spielregeln des Winters noch nachhaltig ändern und so auch noch das Wetter im März mit beeinflussen.

Three beautiful hummingbirds with iridescent plumage are sitting on a branch. It is raining, as we can tell from the dark green forest background heavily spotted with droplets. This saturates the bird's feathers, giving them a wonderful glow. A weak shaft of light singles out the bird in the middle, who is exceptionally beautiful with a brilliant neon near-lime green bib and throat paired with vivid violet underparts. The birds on either side sit looking at him. They too have gorgeous flashy purple/violet underparts, but their color is matched with black heads and bibs and snow white undertails. All have their bills somewhat lifted as if to greet the rain-shower. The central bird is an adult male Crowned Woodnymph. The two flanking birds are Velvet-purple Coronets. Dona Dora, Colombia. It’s February, and the rain that started at the beggining of Dezember, doesn’t stop. Temporary ponds fill, and with them come the first calls of the natterjack toad (Epidalea calamita). Loud, raspy, unmistakable — an early sign that the breeding season has begun.

Wetteranalyse: Die vollständig gestörte Zirkulation und der eisige Winter im Februar
Es ist wieder Sonntag und Zeit für eine ausführliche Wetteranalyse. Über Skandinavien baut sich das Blockadehoch auf, welches sich bereits vor 14 Tagen in der Clusteranalyse abzeichnete (78 Prozent Blockade nördliche Breiten). Dieses Blockadehoch schwächt den Polarwirbel zusätzlich und dreht nebenbei die Grundströmung über Deutschland auf Ost, sodass unter bestimmten Voraussetzungen eisig kalte Luftmassen aus Sibirien nach Deutschland geführt werden können. Tiefdruckgebiete stören jedoch diesen Prozess und so kann es über Deutschland auch zu einer Grenzwetterlage (Wackelwinter) kommen. Verstärkt sich das Blockadehoch und geht eine Querverbindung zum Aleutenhoch ein, kommt bis Februar der klirrend kalte Hochwinter nach Deutschland. Bricht das Hoch hingegen zusammen, kann ein Warmstart in den Februar gelingen. Viele Fragen, viele Möglichkeiten - beginnen wir mit der Analyse.
