A photo of an open black paper sketchbook, placed on a wooden desk and surrounded by a paint brush, paint tubs, coloured pencils, branches, leaves, flowers, and crystals. The sketchbook page features a painting of a tree with blue foliage, almost glowing teal at the rim. The trunk is separated in two at the basem forming a rounded hollow in which a few small glowing blue mushrooms shelter. The trunk refuses towards the top. At the base of the tree lush greenery surround the roots.
Home sick and too tired to paint digitally yesterday (sofa's warmer and more comfy than my computer chair), I decided to try out my old gouache set again! Card size was small enough to not feel overwhelming. :)
A photo of an open sketchbook with blue paper, placed on a wooden desk and surrounded by coloured pencils, crystals, and leaves. On the sketchbook page a small painting is visible, featuring rocks overgrown with bluish moss and glowing pink mushrooms. Behind the rocks a frame shows cold bluish hazy woods.
“Morning Light” is one of those paintings that is quite old but still holds a special place in my heart since it was one of my first gouache paintings I really liked. 💚
And it seems you really like it too because the postcards recently sold out, BUT I was able to restock them today! 😁
A photo of a small, portrait-format painting, placed on a wooden desk and surrounded by postcards of the same motif. The painting features a paved pathway through lush green woods, with soft dappled light in the foreground, and brighter light around a bend further along the path.
The avocet was once extinct in the UK, but this bird, with its distinctive upturned bill, can now be seen on marshes and estuaries in the East and South West of Britain. https://folksy.com/find/item/8591651
A mixed media drawing of avocets standing in shallow water with grasses in the foreground. The water is painted in layers of lilac and and violet blue, in increasingly light tones as they eye moves up the picture.
The Avocet is a distinctively-patterned black and white wader with a long up-curved beak. They are used as the emblem of the RSPB. Look for Avocets in coastal lagoons on the east coast in summer, and the Exe estuary come winter.

Finally tested some Arches paper and also played around a bit more with watercolour for the background. This might honestly be the first watercolour experiment in AGES I actually like. 😄
A photo of a landscape-format painting, placed on a wooden desk and surrounded by paint brushes, coloured pencils, watercolour pans, leaves, and fluorite crystals. The painting features a gently twisting mossy log that seems to be hovering in an almost cosmic purple/blue environment. Perfectly circular yellow plants that emit a bright glow sprout from the moss, and a few small, elongated blue mushrooms grow on the underside of the log.
A painting in gouache of a bumblebee on a small sunflower. The background of the painting is left blank. A bit of the stem and a leaf are visible at the bottom of the painting.

I followed another brilliant painting tutorial by Ruth Wilshaw, and I’m impressed by her excellent teaching skills and whimsical style. I think the glow around the lights is more convincing than in my previous painting. Now I just need to figure out how to apply what I learned to my own compositions and color choices.
Painting of a forest framed by two large trees. The background is misty trees. The foreground contains plants and two glowing orbs that add light and a bit of warmth to the otherwise very cold scene.
And it’s done, my first stylized painting after all those Bob Ross tutorials. I tried really hard to to focus on the quality of my brushstrokes and not to overwork this piece. My success in the regard is debatable.
Fantasy landscape painting with orange sky over a river running through the hills. The hills have trees and bushes. In the front are two foxes peaking out from a bush.
Now that I’ve followed seven painting tutorials by Bob Ross, here is my first attempt at painting a landscape using what I learned. Bob encourages his viewers to use his techniques to create their own worlds, and so I used my own color choices and composition here, made up entirely from my imagination. Bob uses a lot more brown and gray than I like to paint. So I let loose and used brighter colors. Unlike Bob, I used a set of five basic mixing colors of Royal Talens gouache in CMYKW. This little painting is 4.5” square on cotton paper. #painting#gouache#art#landscaped
