Elephant seals take short naps while on deep dives. On the way to 7000 ft below, they fall asleep while diving in spirals downwards. When they get there, they wake up and forage for food
🦭 Celebrating the end of my first year as a marine mammal medic with British Divers Marine Life Rescue. Let's meet the seals 👇
🌶️ Spicy seal (don't trust that face, he was a menace!)
💙 The special one (the only common/harbour seal)
🌜 The night time pick up
🥰 The fluffy prince (certified "good little seal" on his paperwork!)
⛑️ The intensive care patient
😇 The literal angel!
⭐ The perfect princess, with the beautiful singing voice

This is a habit of drawing something every time I feel the urge to scroll unnecessarily. It helps stop the bad habit and start a new good habit of sketching daily!
Left hand holding open a sketchbook page with pink pen drawings of seals. At the top is the text 5/15/25 and SEALS. There are 7 drawings of seals. The bottom right has a large drawing of a seal with a fish in his mouth. Above is a lounging seal, and throughout the rest of the page are some very fat seals with the text Bloop, Gulp, and Blorp.
A serene view of water with gentle waves and sunlight reflecting off the surface. In the distance, a hilly shoreline and a partially cloudy sky. In the middle distance the sealie boi’s little head is popped out of the water.

It’s #NewstodonFriday, the day to celebrate and highlight newsrooms that are active in the fediverse. What do we want you to do with this thread? Boost the posts you enjoy, follow the publishers’ profiles, and subscribe or donate some money to help them continue their great work. And if there’s a newsroom that’s not on our radar, please share in the comments — or just say hello!
Sad news this week about
@hakaimagazine, which has announced it will shut down at the end of the year. For now, it’s still publishing brilliant science stories, like this beautifully illustrated one on the anatomy of seals.
