Pulling together what I think are the final supplies for tomorrow's intergenerational Sunday School mending event. We're going to talk about mending, about things we've mended or had mended for us and our memories of mending. I'm going to talk a little about Mennonite ethics and how mending features into those.
I've got a bunch of partly mended things for people to practice on, a bag of buttons, some scraps to try patching with, and lots of needles. Thank you reuse store!

I finally watched Cory Doctorows talk at #39c3 about a post-American internet, general purpose computing and the right to repair. May have to watch it again, because he speaks fast and hit a lot of fair points there about the US and captialism in general having crossed over a tipping point. Suddenly reminded of an e-waste story: about 13 years ago I spotted a high end gaming PC at the tip. Less than two years old, pretty expensive component choices for the era.
Took home, powered up. The CPU fan immediately ran 100%, and it froze mid-boot. OK, we know why it was treated as e-waste...
Opened the case: Packed with thick dense lint and dust, especially in the CPU cooler fins. I can't imagine where it lived to ingest this much dust in only a couple of years, it looked like a clothes dryer filter in there.
Carefully vacuumed it out, and it immediately worked. Literally nothing else wrong with it.

Laziness totally pays off!

Two years ago, I spilled some drink onto the control. From that point forward, one of the buttons stopped working. I used a workaround by pressing two other buttons. I also looked for a replacement, but I decided they were too expensive.
I also opened the control to see if there was an easy fix, but there wasn't.
So I used the workaround all this time, but today I found that the button that did not work anymore works.
So if someone gets on your case to repair something, just say that you're giving it a good two years to see if it will repair itself. :derpface:
I've had these #Meindl hiking boots for over 50 years. Bought them with money I made as a kid drawing editorial cartoons for my hometown newspaper. They got me started #hiking the #Appalachian#Trail in #Virginia and #Pennsylvania, and later in the #Sierra#Nevada. It was past time to get them re-soled and some TLC. Meindl-approved cobbler in Seattle worked wonders. I went nuts with 72-inch laces. #craftsmanship#reuse#repair

Stupid homeowner question for the FediMind here. We have a window blind that just broke, and I was looking for a replacement. It's a top down/bottom up cellular shade, with cords, which apparently one can no longer purchase.
When did this happen? I understand cords might be problematic for some, but I have cords all over the house. And the blind is too tall for the "cordless" style.
So, we're back to looking at the myriad options instead, but even normal blinds no longer have cords. Sigh. First world problems, but crap.
Gestern erstklassiges Repair Café gehabt. Staubsauger repariert, jede Menge Nähmaschinen, Ventilator und vieles mehr. Ungefähr die Hälfte der Gäste wollten Linux auf ihren Computer spielen lassen. Witzigerweise sind es gerade ältere Leute (60+), die wechseln. Ich hoffe, die Jüngeren kommen auch bald👍
🛠️ Wziąłem wieczorem na tapet "stare futro", czyli Fujitsu Futro S550-2.
Zasilanie 20V jest na płycie, więc to nie zasilacz. Ale ani bipnie, ani diodką nie zaświeci, nic, śmierć mózgowa. Elektrolity nie spuchnięte.
Tak się zastanawiam, czy nie brakuje jakiegoś elementu przy zasilaniu, te cztery punkty lutownicze obok kondensatora "w kwadrat" nie wyglądają na "fabryczny brak elementu", tylko jakby coś zostało urwane. Ale mogę się mylić.
Ma ktoś doświadczenie? Albo taki sam egzemplarz? Albo zdjęcie?
🛠️ Wczoraj i dzisiaj w wiejskiej naprawialni "ratowanie" mocno zapuszczonego akumulatora 12V/7Ah.
Nie spodziewajcie się cudów, wszystko zależy od tego jak bardzo się zdegradował, natomiast u mnie po dolaniu wody destylowanej, odczekaniu kilku godzin i naładowaniu trzyma 12V. Nie jest w stanie pociągnąć wkrętarki, ale pod zasilanie małych rzeczy, oświetlenia awaryjnego, routerka czy switcha jeszcze się nada. No i był za free, a "regenaracja" jest bardzo prosta. One po prostu wysychają.
Ale zaznaczę jeszcze raz: filmiki na yt o "magicznym" przywracaniu do życia starych aku są zrobione po to byście w nie klikali. Mocno przesadzają z efektami 😉
Można też przejść łatwo z 12V na 5V potrzebne do urządzeń usb, albo uniwersalną przetworniczką, albo taką do zapalniczki samochodowej.
ASUS Vivobook strasznie mi zwolnił w grach i osiąga 70 st C przy samej otwartej przeglądarce. Ma 2+ lat więc pewnie przydałoby się mu wymienić pastę. Ja z kolei mam 2 lewe ręce. Zabierać się za to samemu czy zbyt łatwo coś zepsuć? Halp!

Jedna już została "naprawiona" całkowicie (rolka szwankowała, bo była brudna) a druga jest w trakcie naprawy (akumulator już się ładuje).
To są takie "pierdołki" które często wyrzucacie, gdy coś zacznie szwankować, bo można tanio kupić nową mysz czy klawiaturę.
A nam tutaj często się przydają, po naprawieniu, jako dodatek do przekazywanego laptopa czy komputera stacjonarnego. Leżą i czekają na osobę potrzebującą, nie trzeba po nie jechać do Włodawy ani zamawiać nowych w internecie. Czasem ten transport bywa droższy niż potrzebne akcesorium.
Więc jeśli coś Wam zalega w szufladach, starsze akcesoria, komputery, telefony, elektronika, chcielibyście przywrócić je do życia i obdarować kogoś potrzebującego, to można do naprawialni przysyłać ❤️ Zawsze to ziemi 🌍 będzie trochę lżej 👍 a osobie obdarowanej miło 🤝 🫶

Murena sells spare parts for the Fairbuds & Fairbuds XL in the USA now. But they removed the one and only spare part listed for the Fairphone 6 (I don't remember what the part was). Was it ever even in stock? Why don't they give us more transparency on these things?
