This one took a lot of work to finish as not only is 50% bigger than regular magazines, but 2/3 of the pages needed additional rescans and manual editing to correct all the spines, which suffered from a ton of blur when normally scanning this issue.

But with this issue, I have finished nearly all the issues of CVG that I have. I still have a couple of earlier ones, but I need to check those as they aren't all complete...

Still, with this latest release, all issues from 131 up to 211 are finally available for download on the site.
This included the full run of Paul Davies era CVG, which is my personal favourite. (late 1995 till halfway of 1999).

Without further ado, here is CVG 157 - December 1994 (UK):

This issue, and all others can be found here:

Enjoy! 😚

"Blazing Star" (1998) is... a very japanese shooter. The female announcer's voice, the slightly awkward english, the music, and the whole overall style. 🇯🇵

At first I found the constant voice announcements and text messages a bit annoying, but it's grown on me.

The moving backgrounds in some levels, like the metal columns in Stage 2, are awesome. 💯

It's also very Neo Geo, in that it has its share (i.e. lots) of slowdown in busy areas.

Still in the first stage, now with the message "Get it more!"
First stage boss, with the message "Hey poor player!" (notice the absence of the player's ship, meaning I just died).
Blazing Star's second stage. The background is an animated (pre-rendered) 3D sequence (loop) that blends really well with rest of the action.
