#Trump & #Medvedev, who is deputy chairman of Russia's Security Council, traded taunts in recent days after Trump on Tuesday said #Russia had "10 days from today" to agree to a ceasefire in #Ukraine or be hit, along with its #oil buyers, with #tariffs.
Moscow, which has set out its own terms for peace in Ukraine, has shown no sign that it will comply with Trump's deadline.
#Medvedev accused #Trump of engaging in a "game of ultimatums" & reminded him #Russia possessed Soviet-era #nuclear strike capabilities of last resort after Trump told Medvedev to "watch his words."
Medvedev has emerged as one of the Kremlin's most outspoken anti-Western hawks since Russia sent tens of thousands of troops into #Ukraine in 2022. Critics deride him as an irresponsible loose cannon, though some Western diplomats say his statements illustrate senior Kremlin thinking.
Delirious Dmitry #Medvedev has just threatened that in case of "some actual provocations on the Victory Day [9 May], we cannot guarantee that there will be 10 May in Kiev".
Medvedev's threats would be much less miserable if he hadn't been making them several times per month since 2022 in response to fully legitimate military activities that now everyone got used to. For example, on 6 May 2024 the Delirious Dmitry has been threatening to annihilate Western capitals if permission is given to use West-supplied weapons on the territory of #Russia - and they were, and nothing happened. And hey, then there was August 2024 and #Ukraine operation in #Kursk, also preceded by furious threats...
P.S. formally, any Moscow parades are a legitimate target as any other concentration of military equipment in a country at war. Ukraine military command is obliged to factor the principle of proportionality and minimise the risk of civilian casualties when preparing an attack, but its not in any way obliged by unilateral declarations of ceasefire made by Putin who wishes have his propaganda show undisturbed. Any ceasefires must be agreed mutually.
