Why Is U.S. Money Green? Blame Canada!

In the 1850s, Canadian chemist Thomas Sterry Hunt developed a green ink resistant to chemical erasure—ideal for printing secure banknotes. The formula was adopted by U.S. printers during the Civil War when greenbacks were introduced in 1862. Canada's use of chemically stable inks predated this. 🇨🇦
