My name is Joe Steinbring. I am a developer based in #Milwaukee, #Wisconsin. I write a lot of #Laravel, #PHP, #Vue, and #JavaScript. I post photos to @pics (daily blog) and @steinbring (stuff I really like). I blog at @joe / https://jws.news. I ride two-wheeled vehicles (a #bicycle and a #motorcycle) when I can. I enjoy traveling and post about it frequently. 👋
#Introduction
If you are into optical media, this is your sign to stockpile burners while it is still half-affordable.

I just published "Why I would buy any MacBook Pro that includes 5g or LTE on day #1" over on @joe
As I said previously, I have been using Google Fi (formerly called Project Fi) since 2018, and I like it a lot. I liked the idea before I bought a subscription because it promised to work almost anywhere, and I keep using it because Google offers four free data sims per account that draw from...

It's slow, but #GitHub seems to be up for me.

is tempted to write a web app to generate a fediverse filter list based upon what bugs you.
I have been thinking about og:image values lately for https://jws.news (example: https://jws.news/2024/working-to-replace-ifttt-and-pipedream/). How do you come up with a memorable, descriptive image without needing to find something that symbolizes something super specific (like replacing Pipedream in an automation workflow)? I want to avoid just using a screenshot of the thing, and I want to cut down on the time I used to spend searching through Unsplash and Openverse.
I just published "How much money do I make running this website?" over on @joe
People have asked me before about my earnings from this blog. Recently, someone even accused me of using it to “profit/benefit from the destruction of the planet and society.” I want to clarify the expenses involved in maintaining this site and the income it brings in. I’ll categorize the costs into three parts: ongoing fixed...

That's neat.

Is this thing on? 🎤 https://jws.social has officially moved over to @fedihost .
I wish that @codepen had #Fediverse support.
I need to spend some time today moving this GoToSocial instance over to the new host. The old host is shutting down.
I just published "How to use wa-grid with Vue" over on @joe
Last month, we explored using wa-card with Vue.js. In the final example, we created a grid layout using CSS, but Web Awesome also enables this with a WA component. Today, we’ll extend that example by integrating the WA component. Previously, we learned how to center content using Bulma and Bootstrap. WA provides a similar approach...

I got word from the boss that they are willing to buy me a ticket to @CypherCon for 2026. 👍
I just published "Flirting with the Samsung ecosystem" over on @joe
I have been exclusively buying Google Pixel phones for a very long time. I replaced my OnePlus 3 in 2018 when I started using Project Fi (now called Google Fi) because at the time, they were doing something where as long as you were using a Pixel phone, your phone would look at the T-Mobile,...

I just re-upped my @codepen subscription, but since 90% of my pens are kept private, so I can preschedule posts for https://jws.news, my CodePen profile looks a little sad. I might need to do something about that this year.
I had to reboot the server that runs @gmmke and boosts things onto this account. Hopefully, I got everything right.
If you haven't already guessed, I am trying to post the bulk of my travel photos to @pics . At the current rate of three per week, this might take a few years.
Over the past few days, I finished writing three blog posts for @joe and started two more. Once I get the snow shoveled and the dogs fed, I want to try to finish a little more.
I just published "This blog angered people" over on @joe
Last week, I posted about how to use wa-card with Vue, and I was accused of “Profiting/benefiting from the destruction of the planet and society.” That annoyed me enough that I want to explain the blog’s purpose. For the past 14+ years, I have written about the things that interest me (who I am, what...

I asked the boss for funding for a ticket to get into @CypherCon , last week.🤞
I wanted to do basically this very thing, a few years ago.
