Was it really windy? Turbines need steady medium wind speeds to operate; when the wind speed increases above a threshold they stop generating, and sometimes angle the blades to reduce the drag (so the mast and foundation aren’t overstressed).

1·9 days agoWhat did you order and what are you using now?
I ordered a Round, my last Pebble was the original Pebble Time Steel but I also had the very first one from the original Kickstarter.
Love the nostalgia of those old watches but the new ones look so much better with the slimmer bezels!

3·10 days agoIt’ll be the emails where he sends his trade envoy reports straight to Epstein within 5 minutes of receiving them. That’s absolutely watertight and they will throw the book at him for it.
Hopefully they will be able to add further charges as they go.
In the long run, yes. In the short term, the grid upgrades are quite expensive.

“Jeremy, I’ll give you this big marrow from my allotment and a packet of sunflower seeds if you help the poor”
No man could resist that kind of temptation

3·19 days agoI agree with all of this except that “all politicians and their mates do” it.
Yes exactly, bonus marks to you
If you have a cat, don’t let it do this. Concrete is highly alkaline and can cause chemical burns on skin. Even worse, the cat will probably lick it off its paws.
They probably like walking on it because cement hydration is an exothermic reaction so the concrete is quite warm.

Hardware@lemmy.world•Bose open-sources its SoundTouch home theater smart speakers ahead of end-of-lifeEnglish
18·2 months agoYeah the headline definitely does not match the content of the article.
This will make it easier for people to build apps that interface with the speaker without signing any agreement with Bose, but it doesn’t make it any easier for the community to patch or update/maintain the speaker firmware itself, which is what may eventually result in the speakers being landfilled despite having good hardware.

How about that episode where Francis is in a competition at military school to see who can eat the most marshmallow ducks…

Personal favourite is the Hal skating scene
Hilarious, I hope someone got a massive bollocking for that

Yeah that’s fair, the west is only one part of the world though. Plenty of mad stuff happening elsewhere!
Some things never change

I hope you will enjoy it, I really do think less is more with watches. Notifications, media control with physical buttons, and the odd timer is what I need to work really well (and like you say, not have to charge it every day).
I searched around for ages to replace my pebble after they folded, the closest I came was a Fossil watch where the hands could move to indicate different types of notification, but the mechanism broke after about 6 months. I was so excited when Pebble started up again!
