It's not length of nest, its the area of effect for some cells. Some cells have a limited range of effect, and that increases them.

Just make sure to not dump all your troops into the formation then. If you have floors that didn't lock those troop types out, then leave some in the reserved. you can also use the save/load formation so you wont have to reset the entire formation every time.

both are considered secret, check the trader constantly, and for the second one you have to built something to summon her.
