The Aztec protests led by Hernán Cortés are a clear demonstration of the struggle of the Aztec people against the militaristic and theocratic Aztec Empire.

The Aztec Empire committed a bunch of abuses including ritual sacrifice.

I hope things gets better for the Aztec people and I hope they can integrate more of the western culture in their lives. My heart is with them <3.

(dunno if this is the right channel for this shit)

The pope says that the protesters are shouting "deus vult" signifying their desire for the church to act as a unifying force in their country

Read the title and thought "Wait, is this an indigenous independence movement in Mexico I haven't heard about?"

Obviously I don't think we should support Cortez, but two things can be true at once. The Aztecs are objectively a brutal empire that's worse than anything the Spanish have ever done.

This is literally how the more subtle colonialist whitewashing propaganda works in Spain, unironically

I feel like this doesn't make the point you want it to. The Aztec empire fell because the Mexica weren't exactly awesome neighbors and the arrival of Cortes served as a catalyst for the Tlaxcaltecs and the Mexica's tributaries to break free. Not that the subsequent Spanish rule was an improvement, but without the indigenous struggle against Aztec rule, Cortes and his little gang would've been slaughtered, guns or not.

Cortés seized an opportunity that was already brewing. However I don't think the empire would have fallen completely if it had just been the Aztec people fighting against Cuauhtémoc.

My post was made based on a lib comment saying that "things can't get worse than a theocracy" and the comparison between the Aztec Empire and Iran I genuinely think that the most propagandised people can really see both as equally bloody, so yeah things can get much worse when people involved don't see foreigners as people.

Aztecs are just "hilarious" from begin to finish...

Do you know how they got into having to settle on an island in the middle of a lake in the first place ? You will never guess it , its not something that can be guessed.

    (CW: Aztec History)

    spoiler

First they had better lands granted to them , and so they wanted to honor the lokal King for it , so they asked him for his daughter. So he gave them their Daughter and they killed her , skinned her, and wore her around as a sort of cape at a Bakquet with him. So they had to move again...

btw do we have enough Childrean and Captives to drown for the water dieties ?
