Are developers becoming, day after day, a pillar of our society ?

A pillar, as doctors, judges, teachers, ... I think developers has lot of power (see BTC and ETH) to disturb and to rearrange our society and, therefore, to influence some world disasters (wars, hungry, ect.). Wath do you think about this ?

What are some good tools for designing/prototyping, for a developer?

I already use balsamiq mockup. But I am curious to discover new tools. :)
