It wasn’t allowed in the US? Wow. Didn’t know that. In EU it’s available since about ten years. Current systems have high definition projectors with >1 million pixels which can display nearly everything on the street before you.

1·2 years agoIs this a JJ-CCR on the picture? The best thing about these are the stands. Had an APD CCR some time ago. Good CCR, but the missing ability to just let it stand by itself was shit.

Android@lemmy.world•Pixel 8 leak promises 7 years of OS updates—even more than an iPhoneEnglish
1·2 years agoOne big reason for my replacement last year was th camera. The X camera was nice back then… but now? No. Too much capabilities missing.
And of course 5G is quite ok. I like the dynamic island, 120 Hz screen, and some other features.
My old X ist still lying on the desk and works. But I retired it after 5 solid years of work.

20·2 years agoSomeone should create himself a reminder in 7 years to check if Google good this promise and still provides major OS updates for this Pixel.
Apple delivered 5 major iOS updates to the iPhone X + the whole iOS 16 lifecycle with probably some additional security updates in the next 1-2 years. Let’s see how many updates the new iPhone 15 (Pro) models will get. I expect not less.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why are batteries in phones always measured in mAh instead of Wh like for example notebooks?
171·2 years agoYou could just put it in mWh. BAM, bigger number.
3000 mAh * 3.7V = 11.100 mWh Much bigger. Much better.
I hate mAh… it’s absolutely no information how much energy is inside without taking the voltage into account. If you use directly (m)Wh, you directly have the amount of energy the battery can contain.

That’s why I switched sides. From programming myself to developing functions and writing requirements which someone else can implement into code. :)
I could do some programming (did embedded C), but surely I wasn’t the very best in it. So now I’m the guy who defines what a small (but essential) part of SW has to do which will run in hopefully a few million cars in a couple of years. :) Much more fun (and money).
Luckily the Discovery came from the past and saved everyone with the funghi-drive. :)
Discovery had some nice ideas but… well. Alone the constant drama and crying Michael Burnham made the series quite unattractive.
Also the story behind the great Dilithium Explosion. Well. A sad, and alone child. Well. They could have thought about something better.
There were better ST series.

Technology@beehaw.org•US scientists achieve net energy gain for second time in a fusion reactionEnglish
3·3 years agoA lot of incredible science would be involved. And much much more money and a lot of time.
If we (humanity) could achieve that, that would be really cool.
But: how much solar-, wind- and battery-farms could we built with the same money and in much less time?
Fusion is great, but it will probably not be the solution of the energy demand we currently have. Nevertheless it’s something we should pursue furthermore. But we shouldn’t bet everything on it.
Also that’s the same for Lemmy for me. Since Memmy and Mlem are in the AppStore (where I preferred Memmy), I use Lemmy much more and haven’t opened Reddit since 1st July.
So, as long as there aren’t any major high class mobile Apps for firefish, I don’t expect it getting anywhere near to mastodon.
What about mobile apps? I’m on mastodon, but I basically never see the mastodon UI as I stick with Ivory (as I’m a former Tweetbot User on some ancient Microblogging Plattform which has transformed to something… else).
I don’t want to use some „nice looking“ Webpages which are optimized for mobile screens. I want dedicated Apps, as they offer mostly the much better experience.
I think the recent run of developing high class Mastodon Apps earlier this year (as the mentioned ancient Plattform kicked them out) gave mastodon an enormous boost.
